Weis to Kansas

In the biggest stunner of the hiring season, Kansas has hired Charlie Weis.

A program that has been to two major bowls in the last 43 years, a program that lives in the shadow of a top-five basketball program is bringing Notre Dame's former coach. Actually he's Notre Dame's, Kansas City's and Florida's former coach. This will be Weis' fourth job in the last four years.

How much of a stunner? Florida coach Will Muschamp was not aware that Weis had even interviewed. Muschamp was on his way to a Gator Bowl press conference when news broke.

It's clear that Weis' desire to be a head coach again was stronger than first thought. When I talked to him in March he was content as Florida's offensive coordinator. His family was happy. Will Muschamp was happy getting a proven offensive mind. But the Gators slumped offensively this year.

As a college coach Weis took Notre Dame to two BCS bowls but his teams were mediocre at best toward the end. He is best known for being part of three Super Bowl-winning teams in New England. The man can coach offense. In his one year with the Chiefs, Kansas City won the AFC West, quarterback Matt Cassel became an All-Pro and the Chiefs led the NFL in rushing.

Kansas football now becomes somewhat of a national story along with AD Sheahon Zenger who kept the search very quiet. A few of the other names that leaked out where Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn and Southern Miss coach Larry Fedora.

Gunner Kiel

Couldn't find an article online that would let me post a comment about Gunner Kiel.  This is my stage now.  Just read that Gunner Kiel stated, "God and my family helped me make my decision" for LSU.  To which I reply...you dumbass douchebag!  Why did you verbally commit to IU prior to "God" helping you in your decision?  Did you spend some time with Tim Tebow???  Did you find Jesus???  Whatever idiot!  Don't make a statement like that after you already screwed things up!!!  Good luck at LSU!  Break a leg!!!  RR - South Bend, IN

Ok, Turner Gill should have won more than 1 game in the Big 12 conference even with someone elses recruits!  Bill Snyder is a coach and look what he did with other coaches recruits.  I cannot believe some of the comments on here.  Give Charlie Weis a chance.  Welcome to KU coach!

dk13beso,

Love your reply. I was just trying to draw the difference between how much li- way a white coach gets than an African American coach gets thats all. I missed the New Mexico comment all together. I honestly forgot they had an African American coach there. That comment was only meant that Bob Davie still runs an option offense that went out with the 70's that's all there. I just think that with the boosters, and alumni and all that goes into a particular college, I think there is little tolerance when it comes to an African American coach than a white coach gets because of the boosters and alumni. It should be the call of that college not outsiders.

As far as golf goes, I couldn't hit the ocean if I was shooting from the pier.

It's baffling that cbssports is so desperate that they feel the need to keep you on staff.

MUSCHAMP QUOTES TODAY

"There aren't many opportunities you get to be a head coach," Gators coach Will Muschamp said. "I know Charlie, the last one didn't end the way he wanted it to."

"In the recent days, he was contacted about the job and we talked about it and he told me it was an opportunity he wanted to take," Muschamp said. "Any time, and our profession is no different than the business world, when you're able to take a step up, I support it.
"I asked him, I said, 'Is this something you're really interested in doing?' He said, 'Yeah, I want to talk to 'em. If I wasn't interested, I would not talk,'" Muschamp said. "So I said, 'I support you 100 percent if that's what you want to do. I think that's great.' Now, when guys make parallel moves, I don't necessarily agree with that. When guys can further their career, I think it's great."

Hey Scott40. Lou Holtz the best Notre Dame coach of all time? Come on bro; we all know that Ronald Reagan was by far the greatest gipper in South Bend lore. My man, I realize that Turner Gill was your golfing buddy, but it was painfully obvious the dude was in way over his head. By your logic, New Mexico should have retained the venerable Mike Locksley as head coach for another couple of years so he could maybe win more than 2 games a season. Either you got it or you don't as a collegiate head man and Gill didn't just like Muschamp and Mike Stoops and others like him don't. It's not a question of skin color my man.

The Gators had their moment in the sun. That moment is way, way over. UF hasn't had a respectable victory all year and gave up 32 points to 1AA Furman! I thought Muschamp was a defensive guru.  Muschamp is a psycho and people are getting as far away from him as possible.  Just ask the ELEVEN kids who have transferred since he took over.  That's right, ELEVEN!!

The Gators are DONE!  They've had 11 players transfer since Muschamp took over. Weiss is leaving on the sly. The strength coach has already left. A key RB recruit decommitted from UF and tweeted that Muschamp is a liar.  Muschamp goes crazy on national tv during the Auburn game requiring him to issue an apology days later.  People can't get away from UF fast enough. Rats fleeing the sinking ship with a crazy captain at the helm.

Weis to Kansas

I am not a black man. I am a middle aged white male. My point here is when is a black or African American going to get a legit shot at being a major college head coach. Turner Gil is a darn good coach that wasn't given a fair opprotunity to build a lagging Kansas football program with his players. They gave Mark Mangino 8 years to build Kansas into a football powerhouse and it worked until he ate himself out of a job. For a while the talk in Lawrence wasn't Jayhawk Basketball, it was Jayhawk football.

Turner Gil with primarily Mangino leftovers was forced to coach players that didn't fit his system and you could tell that both on offense and defense as they would allow lots of points without scoring hardly any themselves. Year 3 is when a coach is supposed to excel as the leftovers are finally done with and you are recruiting your own players that fit your system. Except if your a black head coach in college football. If you need an example just ask Tyrone Willingham.... If you can find him. Hence the picture I am trying to paint here. Willingham was chased from Notre Dame after Notre Dame has this rule they sign coahes for 5 years and check on their progress from there. Lou Holtz argueably the greatest ND coach of all time. Bob Davie, got 5 years and didn't realize that there was something called the forward pass in football. The option went out with the 70's. I just feel sorry for those New Mexico wide recievers next year. Willingham somehow signs a 5 year contract following Notre Dame protocol and gets them to a bowl game the first year, then fired after three. So, what's a proud catholic college with a brinks truck full of money to do... Hire a white guy, pay him 5 million a year and screw up the program worse than what Willingham supposedly did. You get my point. Davie, 5 years, Weis 5 years, Willingham 3 years. and Brian Kelly in his 2nd year isn't getting America talking about Notre Dame like everyone thought he would. All he has shown is he can rip his players on the sideline after crappy playcalling by himself.

Now Kansas follows suit taking a page from Notre Dame's playbook. Fire an embattled coach in Mangino, Hire an African American coach in Turner Gil so no one will complain about the Rooney Rule, fire him after 2 years with left overs and hire an offensive genious in Charlie Weis pay him a boat load of money, and get no results from it. Weis is a great offensive co-ordinator, but fails as a Head Coach and Kansas will find out sooner rather than later how much of a mistake they have made.

Charlie Weis sucks.  I am sure the gators will be better off without him, no matter who they hire for their next OC
