Saban could lose second coach before title game

Nick Saban could lose two staff members before the BCS national title game.

Once again the name of 'Bama linebackers coach Sal Sunseri has emerged as a replacement at Pittsburgh. The abrupt departure of Todd Graham means the Pittsburgh administration will have to scramble. Sunseri, also Alabama’s associate head coach, interviewed with Pittsburgh last year. He is a former All-American linebacker with the Panthers.

Saban has already lost offensive coordinator Jim McElwain who is headed for Colorado State. McElwain will stay through the bowl game. He has been with Tide almost four years.

Meanwhile, five names have emerged at Pittsburgh as the school rushes to find a coach for the second straight December. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette called Iowa State coach Paul Rhoads a possible front-runner. Rhoads was defensive coordinator for the Panthers under Walt Harris and Dave Wannstedt.

Rutgers offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti could be a candidate at Pittsburgh along with Baltimore Ravens secondary coach Teryl Austin. Prior to Rutgers, Cignetti spent two seasons as Pittsburgh’s offensive coordinator. Austin played at Pittsburgh and most recently spent a season as Florida’s defensive coordinator. Most of his career has been spent in the NFL.

Last year, Pittsburgh also showed interest in Florida International coach Mario Cristobal and Tom Bradley, now the Penn State interim coach.

Also, look for Samford offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee to get serious consideration to join Gus Malzahn in the same position at Arkansas State. Lashlee formerly played quarterback for Malzahn in high school and was a grad assistant at both Arkansas and Auburn.

Yes your words are marked!!  Bama will win big and last I heard Alabama has a population bigger than West Virginia I like a lot of TV's will be watching.  Also, just because you guys don't play defense doesn't make it a boring game.  Not everyone thinks like you; Okie State had their chance just as did Oregon, Standford etc, but they lost a game, Bama moved back up the rankings fair and square.  Is it Bama's fault that they are playing the NCG, no, but I dare say if your team was in the same predicament you would feel the same and would be happy to be there.  Besides everyone knows the Big East is a is Boise State in the east; looks like you guys need a geography lesson.

Teres Minor - you really should know the truth before posting comments like that. Saban has NEVER said anything about rematches in the BCS game because there never has been one. And beside Joe Paterno, you show me a head coach that has not moved to other schools when an opportunity arises. If anything, the past couple of weeks proves that coaches will accept a better position when it comes up. But I guess you're different and would NEVER leave an employer if you had a better oportunity. Let us worry about what happens at Alabama.

Mr Alabama Ok St should have got the shot Bama lost at home to Lsu so a rematch is stupid. The rating will be low because the first game was boring. Just like when the Yanks and Mets played in the series low rating except for the the northeast. You will have good rating in the south which has less tvs .  I understand your a Bama man so you think you are right but Lsu is by far the better team and this one will not be a close game. Mark my words!

Quit Whining.. Jealousy consumes you people, you twist and turn stories to make em seem like the specific person you're talking about is sick and demented or something. First off Freshmen don't lose their scholarships when they show up. Transfers happen, Injuries occur, and some players aren't good enough to play so they leave. Coach Saban isn't the only one who "oversigns." quit complaining about the BCS National Championship game, I don't agree with the BCS either but they got this right, either we could have a 45-10 game or a 24-20 game. This isn't the little league where everyone gets a trophy. The two best teams are playing NOLA. Please get over it and stop whining about something that won't change.

Sunseri is definitely my favorite to take the position. I hope Peterson gets a hold of him quickly and signs him before anyone else does.  If they hire Bradley, I will turn my back on my alma mater and find another team to follow.  Pitt has too much to worry about now.  They can't take someone in with that much baggage.  I don't care if he knew nothing or not.  In my opinion, everyone associated with the PSU program knew what was going on to some degree.  Pitt doesn't need any more screw ups.  They need someone that will be solid and focused only on the football program, not the past.

Saban deserves it

Saban deserves to lose all of his coaches before the title game.  He is the most prolific over-signer in college football.  He recruited 129 players for 85 spots over a five year period.  That resulted in many players arriving on campus in August, only to find that they had no scholly and no place to live.  Also, Saban never hesitated to change jobs when he saw "greener grass;" he should be proud to have mentored his coaches so well that they do the same thing he would do.
Saban is a reptile.  He changed his story about rematches in the title game sometime between 2006 and 2011.  Neither he nor his team deserves to play in the BS Sham-pionship game.  Saban and the BCS deserve each other, though.  Both are hypocritical, self-serving, and are happy to make a joke of college football to further their own agendas.  I hope LSU puts Saban in his place.

These are the same names recycled over and over again!  Pitt went to outsiders in Heyward and Graham because they didn't like any of these candidates, I find it highly unlikely that they will come back to these ones again.

Pederson is a raving egomaniac, and he wants to make a splash.  He isn't going to go for these guys, I look for him to make a run at bigger names, like Turner Gill, Mike Stoops, Dennis Erickson, etc.

Tom Bradley at Penn State is a good man and a good coach. To put any blame on him for what happened at Penn State is simply uninformed and flat-out wrong. Pitt could do a lot worse. If he took the job, at least he'd be there for a while, and not bolt after one or two good seasons, which is what will happen if they hire the next "young Johnny Majors".  Most coaches today, especially the younger ones, are not loyal to a school or program, and will jump ship the first chance they get for either more money or for what they consider a more prestigious job. Bradley didn't learn that kind of stuff at Penn State.
