Gene Smith statement re: Urban Meyer

Posted on: February 3, 2012 1:03 pm

This statement from Ohio State AD Gene Smith was released by the school early afternoon on Friday:

"I am disappointed that negative references have been made about our football coaches and particularly head coach Urban Meyer regarding recruiting. In our league appropriate protocol, if you have concerns, is to share those concerns with your athletic director. Then your athletic director will make the determination on the appropriate communications from that point forward. The athletic directors in our league are professionals and communicate with each other extremely well. Urban Meyer and his staff have had a compliance conscience since they’ve arrived."

Gene Smith statement re: Urban Meyer

If the little 10 is going to whine about this just wait till Meyer has 10-15 felons on his team and he talks about how they all have terrific character.....OSU is setting themselves up for a program that will get whooped by Indiana, Minn, NW and Purdue soon.....Meyer makes the Vest look like a Saint.

Gene Smith statement re: Urban Meyer

A little while ago...

Gene:  "You know Jim, they caught up to us"
Jim T.: "We both had a stake in this"
Gene: "Yes, but if I fire you, I will be hung out to dry with OSU alumni"
Jim T.: "You want me to take it?"
Gene: "Isn't it better than both of us taking it?"
Jim T.: "Benefits?"
Gene: "Of course, and I will always speak highly of you"
Jim T. "Unfortunately, our hand is in the cookie jar"
Gene: "I knew you'd understand"
Jim T.: "I hope my predecessor will learn from this."
Gene (holding back snickers): "I'm sure"

Oh, and this kind of sanctimonious attituDe is what happens when you let scumbag cheaters get away with murder by allowing their own administrator to head their investigation by the NCAA! Every lawyer who heard this must have gotten sick to their stomachs, it was an inexcusable violation of conflict of interest by the NCAA. Other NCAA schools should bring suit against smith and osu.

Gene is the biggest hypocritical pos in NCAA history. What an absolute disgrace to the human race. About the only good thing you can say about him is he isn't Jerry Sandusky.

Wonder what Smith and Meyer would have to say if the shoe was on the other foot? Just goes to show how low this school has gotten, as long as it benefits them it doesn't matter if it's morally right or not. Scum, all of them.

Knttiger, seriously what is so crooked about the athletic department at OSU?  The University turned themselves in and penalized themsevles upon knowledge of minor infractions that were blown out of proportion due to Tressell trying to fix the problems in house.  SMU was paying players big sums of cash and had a payroll for the players.  Baylor was paying players also.  How does selling memorabilia for sums less than $2500 even compare to your poor example?

Prized recruits are good but that does not equate to a winner.  Example Boise State Broncos.  Football is still a team sport where chemistry is more important than talent but we realize talent is important if the coach is good and can mold the talent into good chemistry.

Far too much whining by the losers. if you are a prized recruit and you have a chance to go to Ohio State and play for Urban Meyer vs. Bielema at Wisconsin or Dantonio at Michigan State, then the choice is relatively straighforward. Meyer has the resume and Ohio State has a longer tradition of success. Whining doesn't change that. None of the other coaches hold any "ethical" advantage over Meyer, except in the minds of people whose favorites lost to him. Which is typical these days, I guess. Blame your failures on someone else. LOL. Easier to take that way, I suppose.
