Gene Smith statement re: Urban Meyer

This statement from Ohio State AD Gene Smith was released by the school early afternoon on Friday:

"I am disappointed that negative references have been made about our football coaches and particularly head coach Urban Meyer regarding recruiting. In our league appropriate protocol, if you have concerns, is to share those concerns with your athletic director. Then your athletic director will make the determination on the appropriate communications from that point forward. The athletic directors in our league are professionals and communicate with each other extremely well. Urban Meyer and his staff have had a compliance conscience since they’ve arrived."

Gene Smith statement re: Urban Meyer

I find it hilarious that Gene Smith believes that HE is a professional athletic director.  He has overseen some of the most crooked actions of any athletic department since SMU and Baylor.

I have no problem with Urban- he does what he does, and he's damn good at it.

You all have to remember that Ohio State can pay their palyers alot more than MSU or Wisconsin.  That is why they are ripping off these other schools.  Money talks.  Everyone knows that.  Give Meyer a couple years and the NCAA will be all over them again

Hey GNO...nice comeback, but completely inaccurate.  Sure Rich Rod didn't do well versus the Bucks, but neither did his predecessor Lloyd Carr, who had a 6-7 record against tOSU. And Brady Hoke won his first game against the Bucks but that was in Ann Arbor.  How about this year when he has to come to the 'Shoe.  Talk to me in late November...until then...shut your pie hole. Because, what has Michigan won lately??? Carr helped you win the title in 1997 but before that you have to go back to 1948!  Quit bragging about your beloved Wolverines cuz they haven't done ANYTHING!

Yeah, up until now all of your coaches (especially Jim Tressel and Jim O'Brien) have accorded themselves to the rules, so I consider myself chastized.

Really Gene Smith???  Blow it out your ***

As a graduate of tOSU, I say "Amen to that, brother, amen to that."

As opposed to what?  Being without a conscience?

So,  when someone speaks up when something is done that is wrong, that is whining and the person is a crybaby.

Got it.

Just remember the rules of Karma.

Bielema knows flipping recruits is not illegal.  He's done it before, he'll do it again.  This is something else, but we don't know what it is yet.
Bielema actually used the word "illegal."  Does he accuse Meyer of assault?  Mail fraud? Forgery?

If he has documentation of illegal actions or (more likely) NCAA rule violations, the proper way to address it is not to mention it through vague comments to the media.  If he has no evidence of actual wrongdoing, Bielema needs to remain silent.

When I see an obvious failure linger and linger in a job and he's a minority in a historically majority institution, I'm inclined to wonder just how deeply closeted their racism really is. I mean, it sure seems like the powers-that-be at OSU may well believe that there's no point looking elsewhere for a replacement token. Just saying.

Me, I'd make Archie Griffin the man. How could he possibly not do better than this clown?

Yes gno44, OSU only won during the Tressel era because of the free tattoos that made them run faster and tackle better. Give me a break.
