Gene Smith statement re: Urban Meyer

This statement from Ohio State AD Gene Smith was released by the school early afternoon on Friday:

"I am disappointed that negative references have been made about our football coaches and particularly head coach Urban Meyer regarding recruiting. In our league appropriate protocol, if you have concerns, is to share those concerns with your athletic director. Then your athletic director will make the determination on the appropriate communications from that point forward. The athletic directors in our league are professionals and communicate with each other extremely well. Urban Meyer and his staff have had a compliance conscience since they’ve arrived."

Gene Smith statement re: Urban Meyer

This is making Wisconsin and MSU sound like babies. Maybe its jealousy because Meyer has came in and cleaned house. I can tell you one thing, im very excited to watch the OSU/Michigan game again. With Hoke and Meyer in the fold, This rivalry is going to get even more intense and competitive. Ill be watching the game year in and year out now. Like it!

Gene Smith statement re: Urban Meyer

Gene Smith........great moral lighthouse.  He presided over the rule breaking that went on with the football program.  He made a fool of himself in regards to explaining the teams that were chosen for the NCAA mens basketball tourney.  Why does he still have a job???

Three times you felt it needed to be said, mikasa, in three different ways. Was that some kind of witchie hex, fella? Are ya putting the bad jujubee on us? Is that what's meant by the word 'hook' in the phrase 'by hook and by crook'? (We know you've got the other one covered.) Anywho, you might want to lighten up on the extreme possessiveness a wee bit. Some of the Ohio players involved might take a little historical exception to your view of them as State property. :)

Say what you want about Urban Meyer, but he did nothing illegal.  The real question regarding this for me is, how does Gene Smith still have a job?  He should have been whacked along with Jim Tressel in my opinion.

Gene Smith statement re: Urban Meyer

You know, before Tressel, OSU ws getting dominated by Michigan.  Funny how they have to stoop to illegal and unethical means to beat them, and that was only during the worst coach in U-M history with Rich Rod.  Come on OSU.  If you really want respect around the league and the country, win, but do it the right way.  But, you have yet to prove you can do that.

Gee, Gene, if it's really, really true that you're "shocked! shocked!" at the criticism engulfing the Second Coming of the Vest, then you would be utterly devestated to read or hear the criticism due their enablers. (Hint, big fella: That'd include you.)

I did hear that Meyer discussed an unsigned recruit on TV which is a NO-NO.

Yeah, everyone shoudl listen to Smith and his understanding of the proper channels in which to go through in order to get information to the proper places. I want to believe, whole-heartedly, that he purposely through in the "compliance" line just to be a smartass. Ohio State University, where compliance and communication is our top priority, unless of course that interferes with Saturdays.
