Whispers about Leinart

Posted on: March 5, 2008 11:56 am
Will the Arizona Cardinals make the same mistake with Matt Leinart that the Falcons did with Brett Favre. There are increasing rumblings that the Cardinals aren't exactly enamored with Matt Leinart. I got this from someone with an NFL background who had dealt with Cardinals officials in the past.

"He doesnít like (what they do) and they donít like him. I understand they would rather go with Kurt Warner. I donít know what thereís not to like (about Leinart)."

If this is true, I wouldn't be surprised. These ARE the Cardinals.

Whispers about Leinart

Well last year was a wash for Leinart, have co starters for quarterbacks just doesn't work and isn't the way to develop a quarterback.

Sorry about wasn't in OT...the Baltimore Ravens won it in regulation as time expired on a field goal from Matt Stover.

Whispers about Leinart

Matt Leinart leading the team at QB did not make the Cardinals competitive this year, Kurt Warner did. Leinart barely played this past season...he started four games, and really only saw significant playing time in two of them...a loss at the 49ers...and a win at home against the Seahawks (a big win where he performed well).

The Cardinal win against the Pittsburgh Steelers early in the season may be have been started by Leinart, but it was the big game from Kurt Warner that put the Cards past the Steelers in that game.

As for the other Leinart start, at Baltimore...he was pathetic...and it took a fourth quarter, Warner led comeback (overcoming a 17 point defecit) to push the game into OT, before falling to the Ravens.

Whispers about Leinart

Yeah, but Brett Favre was far from the man he is today when he was playing with the Falcons. He partied constantly, and was addicted to painkillers. It took him a long time to settle down into the guy he is today, someone who would retire from football because he isn't seeing his family enough.

Granted, Matt Leinart has not been the overwhelming superstar that everyone thought he would coming out of the draft, but he has made the Cardinals competitive in the NFL, they go out every week and have a chance at winning, and they were even fighting for a wild card spot last year. Give the kid some time to settle down and get a sense of direction, he is just out of college, and he's living large. Once he settles down, he's going to be a force to be reckoned with in the NFL, and I will never forgive the Lions for passing up on him, even if they did get Ernie Sims.

Whispers about Leinart

I wouldn't be surprised but I wouldn't compare Leinart to Farve by any means. If Matt had 1 ounce of Farve's heart and desire this post wouldn't exist.

I've seen enough of Leinart to know that there's something missing with this guy. Whether it's the fact he has Warner looking over his shoulder or he doesn't have Bush to dump it off to.

Leinart is a celebrity in Phoenix and what has he done? He has his own AM talk show and the groupies that only rock stars can dream of.

I just don't think he's totally into football. I honestly think he's thinking of a career beyond the NFL.
