Georgia, you're on the clock

So now it's on for Georgia, a program that has never been a preseason No. 1.

The Bulldogs debuted at on top of the coaches' poll Friday, which is nice for about 13 seconds in the SEC. Now the pressure builds. The Bulldogs will face something eight coaches this season who have won national championships. The schedule is tougher than breakfast steak. And how weird is this: Florida is ranked No. 5 but was picked over Georgia in the preseason media poll to win the SEC.

Only two teams in the last 10 years have gone wire to wire, USC in 2004 and Florida State in 1999.

The good news: Five of the last six preseason No. 1s in the coaches' poll have at least played in the BCS championship game. USC broke a streak of five in a row last season.

The breakdown of the last six preseason No. 1s:

2002: Miami lost the BCS championship game to Ohio State

2003: Oklahoma lost the BCS championship game to LSU

2004:  USC beat Oklahoma (preseason No. 2) in the BCS championship game

2005: USC lost the BCS championship game to Texas

2006: Ohio State lost the BCS championship game to Florida

2007: No. 2 LSU beat Ohio State (preseason No. 10) in the BCS championship game. Preseason No. 1 USC finished No. 2 in the coaches poll.

Georgia, you're on the clock

Well, I guess the bad news for Buckeye fans is that I have little to no doubt that there will be an SEC team playing for the title. I am pretty sure UGA has the stars lined up for once and has a great shot, but dare I say that even Florida has a great shot. Either way, somebody is going to slaughter the buckeyes AGAIN! I think Florida's wide-open style of play leaves them less vulnerable to a big upset, but I think they are at a deficit when they play big games. I think the opposite is true for UGA, though. More likely to win the big games and lose to someone inferior. Urban Meyer hasn't learned one key thing about the SEC....DEFENSE!! He cleans the map with 5 star offensive players, but they lack a solid defense and have NO depth. That is fine except that your offense scores in 20 seconds and puts the defense right back on the field....come 4th quarter, you can't expect them to keep their breath! When Meyer learns the role ball control and balance in the SEC, I think Florida will be even better

Georgia, you're on the clock

I hear a bunch of haters out there!!! But you know what thats ok. I am a huge UGA fan and I do expect them to lose a game maybe 2 but how could you not with their schedule especially their November schedule alone, it's absolutley brutal! All they are saying by putting UGA #1 is that they have the best all around team and play one of the tougher schudules out there and if they come out of that schedule with only 1 loss that they deserve to be a high mention for NC talks. If that happens then it looks like the SEC will be beating the crap out of another OSU team or possibly USC which is what I want.

Georgia, you're on the clock

I just don't see Georgia able to finish the job.  I see them being upset in the desert by Arizona State.  Georgia also doesn't win 2 in a row against Florida, I believe they have lost 15 out of 18 to the Gators.  Then there is the Tennessee question and the Old Ball Coach in S. Carolina.   Auburn and LSU have new quarterbacks but their defenses will keep them close.  Basically I'm just not sold on them being a Top 3 pick.    In just my view they really didn't beat a top 10 team last year.  Beating Auburn or Florida was in my view like beating Penn State or Michigan last year.  Good victories but if my Buckeyes were ridiculed last year in not beating anyone, than Georgia should not get off free.   Sugar Bowl victory over Hawaii,  same Hawaii team that struggled all year on the mainland, and I watched their come from behind victory  over Washington.    I just don't see it,  yes a top 10 pick but not #1..

Georgia, you're on the clock

the coaches poll is the poll that is in the equation for them to get to the NC game so you could say that is the more important poll i like they are ranked #1 but i rather see them ranked #1 at the end of the season right now means nothing it just means everyone is gunning for them when the season starts.

Yes, the "more important" pre-season AP poll.

GA WON'T BE #1 IN THE MORE IMPORTANT AP POLL.
