Georgia, you're on the clock

So now it's on for Georgia, a program that has never been a preseason No. 1.

The Bulldogs debuted at on top of the coaches' poll Friday, which is nice for about 13 seconds in the SEC. Now the pressure builds. The Bulldogs will face something eight coaches this season who have won national championships. The schedule is tougher than breakfast steak. And how weird is this: Florida is ranked No. 5 but was picked over Georgia in the preseason media poll to win the SEC.

Only two teams in the last 10 years have gone wire to wire, USC in 2004 and Florida State in 1999.

The good news: Five of the last six preseason No. 1s in the coaches' poll have at least played in the BCS championship game. USC broke a streak of five in a row last season.

The breakdown of the last six preseason No. 1s:

2002: Miami lost the BCS championship game to Ohio State

2003: Oklahoma lost the BCS championship game to LSU

2004:  USC beat Oklahoma (preseason No. 2) in the BCS championship game

2005: USC lost the BCS championship game to Texas

2006: Ohio State lost the BCS championship game to Florida

2007: No. 2 LSU beat Ohio State (preseason No. 10) in the BCS championship game. Preseason No. 1 USC finished No. 2 in the coaches poll.

That is actually funny!

How about winning a game against the SEC first! HAHAHA  First of all, you guys root for a nut! How stupid is that! No disrespect, but you were better off with Cooper, he did not embarrass you nationally! Okay vest boy won a tille, but at what cost? Everything since has been very funny! Can't wait to see this seasons choke!

OK, so your team has one or two tough teams in your conference and you want us to play them, too???  In addition to our huge workload?  Let's see your team play Georgia, Auburn, and Florida, not to mention a couple of dangerous "mediocre" SEC teams, as part of their regular schedule -- You'll be screaming for mercy!

I understand your frustration but can we take a step back and look at it from a different point of view.  Lets look at Georgia.  Ok, so there non conference game is ASU, and USC's is OSU, a very hard test early in the season.  But who does USC or OSU play after that game.......crickits.........  My point is I am not one of those SEC fans that claims to have the best conference and were the fastest blah blah blah.  I know USC has amazing talent, I know OSU has speed and talent.  My only point is, sure UGA plays ASU(which should actually be tough test) but then they play LSU(Defending Champions), Florida(#5), TN(#17), Auburn (#13), I mean look at SC's schedule or OSU schedule and tell me that it is comparable.  Again, I agree that it is not SC or even OSU's fault that thier conferences are weak right now, you shouldnt have to take flak for that and in no way should it discredit how good your team is.  But to say that an SEC schedule is not the toughest in the country right now does discredit your point of view.

For UGA fans to think this is 'their' year, get thorugh your schedule before you say such things like  'If that happens then it looks like the SEC will be beating the crap out of another OSU team or possibly USC which is what I want.'

I dont think thier is any problem with my fellow UGA fans having thier hopes up.  Lets be honest this is the most hype we have had going into a season since 1981.  Of course you will get the fans that take it too far and again start bashing other teams and conferences.  But dont hate on all fans for the comments of a few.  I am personally very excited for what the Dawgs could possibly achieve this year.

I am not going to lie and say I wasnt hoping to be ranked #2.  Something about being the #1 seed doesnt sit very well.  But what's done is done and no matter what the preseason rank is,  Georgia still has to play the same schedule they would if they were ranked #10.  So its all on the Dawgs to step up and earn that #1 spot.  I for one can NOT wait for the season to start!

Nice post.  I too was hoping for that Rose Bowl matchup last season.  From the bean counters point of view, 1/4 of the people that filled the Sugar Bowl would not have made the trip to CA.

As a UGA fan in the panhandle of Fl, there are all types of fans. FL, FLST, AL, Auburn, LSU, Michigan, & the worst of them all, Ohio State.  It truely makes for intense discussions around the water cooler.  I grew up believing that Alabama fans were the worst in the world, but the last two seasons have shown that Ohio State takes the cake.  I listen to the crap from AL fans all season long, but preseason Ohio State talk makes no sense.  Excuses for losing the season before and promises on how "this year is the year"  just get old.

Would I like to see UGA run the table?  Sure.  Do I honestly think it will happen?  Absolutely not.  Spurrier always plays us tough.  Let's get past the SC game and the trip to the desert before we even look to November.

I don't see Georgia holding on to #1.  I don't think they can beat Arizona State or LSU.  SEC fans look down on the PAC 10.  I've seen a lot of comments stating that USC is the only good team in the conference.  Arizona State, Oregon, Oregon State and Cal beat up on eachother all year long leaving the impression that a win over USC is a complete fluke.  USC is consistantly the toughest team in the conference, but there are always 5-6 other teams that are capable of playing top 10 football.

Totally agree with ya dude uga has no chance of even going to the big game and here is why: That program tolerates excuses.  every year its "well the refs this, or "if we woulda done that", "the SEC is soooo tough every week", etc. etc.  They are so used to saying it at the end of every season dont be surprised if they havent drafted theior excuse to this season already.  They have never been a top NCAA football program and never will be.  uga loses three this season including one in Tempe. Yes sir, FIGHT ON!  GO TROJANS!

p.s. we would have handed you your ass last year in the bowl game had they scheduled it.

Ok Big Ten, Pac Ten, SEC, I don't really care about the comparisons. I'm just curious about your "...I, as an athlete... would not take any pride honor or accomplishment...... in winning multiple Big Ten or Pac Ten football titles...." because they are competing against "inferior non-SEC" athletes. So, what exactly have you, "....as an athlete..." done that qualifies you to tell these young men that they should feel no pride, honor or accompishment for their successes in major college  football? Unless I'm talking to Peyton Manning, Herschel Walker or Glenn Dorsey,  I'd suggest you check yourself!
