Georgia, you're on the clock

So now it's on for Georgia, a program that has never been a preseason No. 1.

The Bulldogs debuted at on top of the coaches' poll Friday, which is nice for about 13 seconds in the SEC. Now the pressure builds. The Bulldogs will face something eight coaches this season who have won national championships. The schedule is tougher than breakfast steak. And how weird is this: Florida is ranked No. 5 but was picked over Georgia in the preseason media poll to win the SEC.

Only two teams in the last 10 years have gone wire to wire, USC in 2004 and Florida State in 1999.

The good news: Five of the last six preseason No. 1s in the coaches' poll have at least played in the BCS championship game. USC broke a streak of five in a row last season.

The breakdown of the last six preseason No. 1s:

2002: Miami lost the BCS championship game to Ohio State

2003: Oklahoma lost the BCS championship game to LSU

2004:  USC beat Oklahoma (preseason No. 2) in the BCS championship game

2005: USC lost the BCS championship game to Texas

2006: Ohio State lost the BCS championship game to Florida

2007: No. 2 LSU beat Ohio State (preseason No. 10) in the BCS championship game. Preseason No. 1 USC finished No. 2 in the coaches poll.

Georgia, you're on the clock

I love when SEC homers talk smack.  They seem to ridicule the PAC 10 in general but strangely not USC usually... why?  Cause USC has owned the SEC teams its played in the last 4-6 games.  So be careful what you ask for SEC, because just as much as you like slamming the Big 10 (i.e. Ohio State) for making it to the big game and getting crushed by the SEC, the same could be said when the SEC plays USC.

Until someone in the SEC beats USC, you cannot say anything.

And do not give me the PAC 10 is weak argument.  For the most part, I agree with you.  But USC tries to schedule a difficult OOC schedule and, if you have not noticed, USC usually (save for Texas) owns who it plays in its BCS bowl games.

If USC rolls Ohio State --- BIG IF --- then SEC teams please take note, because as the person above said, USC is not a Big 10 team.

for all the sleepers on the Pac....get a clue. USC runs shit and will run it over SEC any day. But out of the deepness of my heart...I hope UGA shoves it so far up ASU's ass.

Bear Down.

Georgia, you're on the clock

Please remember it was 14 starting freshmen who beat your Gators last year. Replacing who is hard? We are coming with 20 years of memories of running up scores. Now it is our turn. Celebrating a touchdown for kids who needed a lift was nothing meant for any Gator. We needed a spark and now we will face you again when you have no bye week to prepare in years past. I hope you are sober enough to see the bush league celerbration again. It has nothing to do with your Gators. You got  a free score out of it anyway, so we actually helped you too. Kind of funny to see the look on the faces and all the laudry flying.

Georgia, you're on the clock

Hey, if Mac Brown for Texas can do it and get to the Rose Bowl anyone can. We at least have teams we play that can beat us. We don't just play one hard game every year as Ohio State, USC and Texas does year in and year out. We also win our last game ranked in the top four. Three of the others did not. Nebraska went without winning their conference if you forgot. You should drop if you lose late, even more so if it is at home.

Georgia, you're on the clock

Man it's hilarious to see Ohio State and USC fans try to talk trash about the SEC and try to say how they play no one out of conference. NEWSFLASH!!!!!!! Do some research and you'll see several SEC teams playing at least one solid out of conference opponent, which by the way is just as much as any of your pansy big 11 and pac 10 JV teams. Not to mention we play in the number 1 conference and have a conference title game.

I would love to see Ohio State or USC play a man's schedule like Georgia has this year. Sissies couldn't handle it.

Georgia, you're on the clock

It is the best they get to play all year. It does not matter if they lose. They both did their last games last year to weak teams at  home. I agree they will dominate the Buckeyes as well as their conference as always. They get to rest and prepare at the end of the year with no conference title game. You can mark those words every year. All that talent playing against no one. Both teams have the same agenda every year. Wish the Bulldogs had either schedule because we could count them in the top three every year and for once play a rested SEC team in the National Championship for once. We dominate now playing an extra game and a harder schedule. HMMMMMMMM!!!

Georgia, you're on the clock

I am very happy as a Trojan fan to see that USC is not #1.  It is time for someone else to
be the "championship game" for teams trying to upset #1 at least for a few weeks.
Let Georgia see the "return of the Ol' Ball Coach" on week 2 with a motivated effort
for the South Carolina team to rise up and play inspired football.  It is tough to be #1.

I was reading the "schedules" comment and thought that it might be interesting to submit
the Southern Cal OOC schedule - 12 games total.

USC
-------
at Virginia
O-State
Irish (they will return to glory this year)
All 9 Pac-10 opposing teams
(no missing LSU or Auburn on off-years)
including Oregon, Cal, Arizona State, UCLA, and Washington.
(reminding O-State fans that the Washington-OSU game last season
was not decided until the second half of that game - Jake Locker is going
to cause problems for teams this year)

Note:
(There is no need for a championship game in the Pac-10 if you play everybody.)

wow, smell that Big Ten HATE!  I hope OSU makes it back, and the SEC stomps them for a third straight year.  Go Dawgs!
