If 25 wasn't enough, here are three more "things" to watch in '08 ...

No, this isn't a new Justin Timberlake disc. Remember when Joe Paterno and Bobby Bowden used to be about who was going to retire the all-time victories record?

Now it's about which exit is going to be more ugly. Paterno is going Wallenda this season, working without a net, er, contract. Bowden has a succession plan in place but there is little buzz about his program this season.

Why do I get the feeling that both guys will still be coaching in 2009?

Overrated, underrated

Overrated: Spring. Spring games are now televised. Some whack marketer tried to conduct a series of concerts/pep rallies leading up to the games at several schools. Note to fans: These are practices. By the time the season rolls around you will have learned nothing. Sitting in the sun on a lawn chair sipping Michelob Ultra isn't bad, though.

Underrated: These coaches who will soon have big-time jobs -- Al Golden (Temple); Brian Kelly (Cincinnati); Bronco Mendenhall (BYU); Mark Dantonio (Michigan State).

Cougar382 Since: Apr 27, 2008	Posted on: August 20, 2008 5:27 pm More "Things" I don't know how much research you've done Dodd but Bronco Mendenhall isn't going to pull an Urban Meyer and go to a big school to make more money. Bronco isn't that kind of guy, he has said several times that he hopes to continue the traditions of BYU and add some of his own. He has also said that he hopes to make BYU into a national power like they were when Lavell Edwards was at BYU. I don't know what you think but part of tradition isn't leap frogging to a big school and more money. Some people aren't slaves to money Dodd. And Bronco is one of those people, don't expect him to leave BYU. And Brian Kelly and Mark Dantonio are already at BCS programs, why would they leave to go somewhere else if they already have good assets at their disposal? [ Reply to Comment ]

The PAC10 has USC, and USC, and let me see, USC. Placing the B12 over the B10 might be pushing it though but this is the best rating of the conferences I've seen this year. [ Reply to Comment ]

In the Big Ten, and with a couple wins against Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State & teams like that... Dantonio will already be big time. As for you pansies living your fantasy lives on the internet, what's the point of 'defending', 'protecting' and 'supporting' Dennis Dodd against other posts? I mean, do you have a poster of him in your room or what? He thinks sipping Michelob Ultra isn't bad? He should try "beer" instead! I mean, real beer. Ridgeback Since: Jun 8, 2007	Posted on: August 17, 2008 12:03 pm Always underrated Every year the Pac-10 is picked 4th in the major conferences, the SEC first and the BIg 12 or Big 10 exchange 2nd and 3rd. The Pac-10 is always underrated because they almost all play a tough non conference and play a full round robin so they all have at least one more loss than the other teams in those leagues. They are over 70 behind John Gagliardi, who is entering his 59th season as a head coach, 55th at the same school, hasnt had a losing season since 1964, and has something neither of those 2 have -- 2 real (ie, PLAYOFF, championships Also, there is no such thing as Division I-AA or I-A in the NCAA offical lexion.....get with the program [ Reply to Comment ]
