Braves add Eric Hinske

The Atlanta Braves made another move toward attempting to beef up their offense Tuesday when they agreed to terms on a one-year deal with veteran infielder Eric Hinske, CBSSports.com has learned.

The contract is pending a physical examination, according to a source with knowledge of the talks. Financial terms were unknown.

Hinske gives the Braves an experienced, left-handed bat off the bench, and he gives them insurance at first base in case Troy Glaus doesn't stay healthy.

Hinske, 32, will also can play third base and the corner outfield spots. He's also something of a good-luck charm: He's played in each of the past three World Series, with the Yankees last fall, Tampa Bay in 2008 and Boston in 2007.

In 93 games with Pittsburgh and the Yankees in 2009, he hit .242 with eight homers and 25 RBI.

This is starting to look like a very deep team. Bobby has been competitve with a lot less the past several years. If our rooks pan out, we could suprise this year. I think we lack a true lead off man. I would rather see them pick up a fast lead off guy, than loose our prospects for a power bat.

I have nothing agains Hinske, he is a fine back up player, a career back up player, what you would call a "journeyman" no question about it, if he played everyday for a year, he would probably fall into about 280/25/95 which is not bad, but he will not be playing every day, unless somehting goes differently then it should, I feel like this is a step backwards for the braves, unless they are getting ready to do somehting bigger, Hinske and Glauss are both beyond their prime, they are great club house guys, and both have a little pop from the bench, not so bad, but we need a clubber in the lineup, and neither of these guys are that, we need protection for McCann, chipper, and escobar, need a big bopper. Sorry, just not feeling this signing. hope there is more to come.

Hinske is somewhat underated in my opinion. I think the Braves just got a dependable, capable, and almost always healthy insurance policy. Good grab Atlanta...

In Wren We Trust

In Wren we trust...But this offseason it's becoming harder and harder to believe in that mantra. This move isn't that bad it adds depth to positions we don't really have much at, but still we're left with Hinske who hasn't shown much since winning Rookie of the Year. Wren has made a handle full of moves that have left all Braves fans scratching their heads in the last year. Lets just hope something magical happens this year to see Bobby out the right way.

Wow, Liberty Media Corp is really shelling out the big bucks to beef up this team!

One more year on the minimum ownership, then I hope to God Arthur Blank buys this team.  Wren is doing what he can, but Ted Turner's deep pockets are missed.

Calm down, THE TRUTH, its not that big of a deal we will look at them all in spring training and go from there. As far as Hinske goes he might not even make the team , nothing is set in stone , remember Raul Mondesie ???? get em cheap hope for the best. I think a guy named Jeff Francouer took his spot. I wouldnt trade any prospect at this time, wait until late May or early June than make that drastic decision.

Glaus is healthy and over last 2036 AB's has recorded 1 HR every 16.6 AB'S. Frank Wren is not going to spend anymore money on pricey players...obviously. At least not in 2010 since he is probably sweating having to keep Lowe on the books. Hinske is a great addition to our bench that adds serious pop that we did not have in 2009. Again, Glaus is our big stick at least until the spring or summer rolls around...imo.

big deal time for the braves to do the deed. these washed up players are getting hard to handle. trade medlin and a couple of prospects to get a bonafide star, derrick lee,  gonzo or something. to compete in the nl, this is not the answer, unless heyward asnd schaffer can be bonafide big leaguers next year. c hipper good days are over,  glaus a gamble, need a real clean up hitter to nake us real. do it wren, the big deal. stop teasing us with appetizers.
