Ankiel to sign with Kansas City

Posted on: January 22, 2010 12:48 am

Seven seasons and a couple of positions into his major-league career, Rick Ankiel, the former pitcher turned outfielder, has crossed Missouri and will play for Kansas City in 2010, CBSSports.com has learned.

Ankiel and the Royals have agreed to terms on a one-year deal worth $3.25 million, according to sources, with a mutual option for 2011 worth $6 million.

Ankiel batted just .231 with 11 homers and 38 RBIs in 122 games with St. Louis last season. He started his career in St. Louis as a pitcher in 1999 before inexplicably losing his control and converting into an outfielder. He debuted as an outfielder in the majors in 2007.

Big surprise...nonsense out of a guy named Barak.  I've never heard bigger whiner fans than St. Louis - still not over '85...hilarious!!!!
You might be right, but we get a little bit closer to closure on the 1985 thing every year as the Royals approach 100 losses.  The 2006 season didn't hurt with the whole coping process either.

We might whine about 1985, but at least our team doesn't make us cry.

Your are so right. Greinke is HORRIBLE! He only won the CY Young last year and dominated all of baseball with astounding numbers you douche. I also you give any team the amounts of money the Yankees and Sox have, that team is guranteed playoff births 4 of every 5 years.

Also I believe every time Greinke pitched at home they had sellout crowds. As of now Greinke and Meche(if healthy) 1 2 punch is top 10 in the league. It would be nice to acquire Sheets or Bedard, but hitting is what they really need because they were towards last in the league in hitting.

Stop being such a hater and back your bs comments up with with some facts you loser.

Mark Shapiro of the Indians sits on his hands....

This GM is the biggest bafoon....  10 million on a closer that won't close.....   15 million on a DH that sucks.....   12 million on a .500 pitcher...  But let Sabathia walk and Trade Cliff Lee......    25 million to Sabatia.....    had Cliff Lee 1 more year.....   I would take my chances with those pitchers.. winning 1-0 games...

As for not even taking a sniff at Ankiel....  This GM is a Joke!   Can someone please offer to buy this Club.... Right now, they are worth about only 150 million....    Fire Shapiro.....   Hire some GM, that has done it before...  Phillips is looking for a job...

Dolan's.....  You need to spend money to make money....  You are the cheapest SOB....

I saw right threw you...  I have been telling everyone how when CC, Lee and Martinez were up for contracts, you would trade them to restock the farm.....   You covered the cheap money by aquiring prospect catchers.......  But, where you messed up is...  You cannot fill the shoes of just anyone with pitchers like Sabathia and Lee.....

You pay for your pitching.....  and build an offense in the minors...  You two do it ass-backwards....  You let pitching go and try to buy bats...

I can run circles around you as a GM.....  Oh nice waste of cash 3 years ago... Trot Nixon, David Delucci....  LMAO!   You had Gutierez, Choo and Fransisco and you let your manager destroy 2 of those guys by having to play Nixon and Delucci....

I think I am done....

As a Pirates fan I really wish I could take exception to that comment.  I was reading this article b/c the Bucs were pursuing Ankiel (which I liked) but thought he was out of their price range.  The organization is solid from the top down.

You should probably never post on here again.  Greinke isn't their ace....are you serious!  So now Cy Young winners arent aces.

Really????  I won't waste a lot of time on you because you don't seem to know much about KC.  I've been a Royals fan all my life and yes I do complain about the bone-headed moves pulled in the front office just like every other fan of every other team.  I can't say I've ever really heard much whining from Royals fans, particularly those who post regularly on Sportsline.  To say Zack Greinke isn't our ace is really mind-blowing.  Strike that.  I just looked at some of your other posts and realize you are either an idiot or just like to see what kind of reaction you can get out of people.  I'm guessing it's the second so I suppose I'll just ignore your comments.

They should make him a pitcher.
I agree.  After that, they should make him an outfielder.
