Aggressive Rangers acquire Nats' Guzman

Posted on: July 30, 2010 3:35 pm

The high-flying, first-place Texas Rangers, leaving their fingerprints all over this year's trade deadline, have scooped up infielder Cristian Guzman from Washington as a replacement for injured second baseman Ian Kinsler.

Guzman, 32, has played second base and shortstop for the Nationals this season and, occasionally, right field. A former shortstop who came up in the Twins' organization, Guzman has lost range at second and is considered by scouts to be better suited for second base at this stage of his career. He was hitting .282 with a .327 on-base percentage for the Nationals, who are expected to assume most of the pro-rated portion of his $2.87 million salary for this year.

The Rangers, leading second-place Oakland by 8 1/2 games in the AL West, need a short-term fix at second base Kinsler, who landed on the 15-day disabled list the other day with a strained groin.

The only information he added to his article that you couldn't pick up off the stat sheet is incorrect. Guzman did in fact get traded to Minnesota from New York and he has lost his range at short stop, not second. This guy consistently makes way too many errors. Does anyone edit his crap?

hey genius,  he might have played a season or two in the yankees system but if you knew what the term "came up" meant you'd know that he made his MLB debut with the Twins when he CAME UP.  Just because he played for the yanks A or AA team doesn't mean that the yankees are responsible for his success.  He probably played more for the Twins organization too.  I hate people on here who constantly nit pick the writers on cbs.  Do most of them suck, yes.  Do they always make mistakes, yes but not as often as the critiquers on here seem to believe.  By your logic players like Ricky Nolasco (FLA) and Dontrelle Willis aren't products of the Marlins farm system but the Cubs.  You are an idiot.  The Cubs had them but that doesn't mean they came up with the team because they didn't.

It's a player dump; Texas is not taking on salary obligations. Great thing about being bankrupt in MLB- you get the other teams to pay your players. Could be the next big innovation in the sport, right up there with free agency and steroids.
