Ramblings of a madman

My God! A pitcher running the bases?

What could possibly be next?

A pitcher catching an infield pop-up? A pitcher fielding a ground ball?

Nooooo! Not that! Anything but that!

"My only message is simple: The National League needs to join the 21st century," Yankees co-chairman Hank Steinbrenner huffed in the wake of Chien-Ming Wang's injured foot. "They need to grow up and join the 21st century."

Look, obviously pitchers should remain hermetically sealed and be packed in styrofoam peanuts between starts. We can all agree on that. Right?

But this problem of pitchers running the bases in NL games and interleague games ... hmmm.

OK, I got it. How about if we have ghost runners when a pitcher reaches base, like we did when we were kids and didn't have enough players to fill out the sides in pick-up games?

A pitcher reaches base, he's immediately yanked off the field and placed in a protective oxygen-chamber, or humidor, and replaced by a ghost runner who shall advance as many bases as the batter.

Oh, and ghost owners, too. That would be an improvement.

You know, that is just a lame argument, you can get injured simply walking to the mound, I mean, are we going to lower the mounds to make sure they dont trip on the way up? Please, people need to stop coddling these pre-madonnas and make ALL pitchers hit, that's right get rid of the DH. Babe Ruth didn't use the DH, didnt hurt him any, he only became the home run king after starting his first several years, including a WS title with Boston, AS A PITCHER! The DH is just another method to hold these pitchers hands once the hit the big leagues, they need to grow up, they make millions to play a game, so suck it up and play it.

Haha another brilliant Miller article. Hank needs a kleenex to wipe up his tears. Obviously he is having trouble handling the pressure of being the big dog now. Players get hurt, shut up and deal with it like a man!

Remember all the people that couldn't stand George back in his prime? They never knew what was in store for them once he gave it up to his kids. Hank makes Daddy Dearest sound like the voice of reason.

Ramblings of a madman

I don't love ESPN and I hate the Yankees.  I hate them for beating the Texas Rangers in the playoffs every time we made it (2 times).  Now I know the Yankees make it every freakin year so 2-3 times in the playoffs is no big deal to you, but it is a huge deal to us that love crappy teams.  I would love to have an owner that would do whatever it took to win, but I don't so I will continue to root for my team and hate the Yankees and Red Sox for that matter.

Another thing that makes me hate both teams is that you guys have great fans that die baseball, while I live out here on the West Coast, so we get the Yankees and Sox leading off every sporting show and every game they play seems to be nationally televised.  I can go on if you like.  End of the day I hate the Yankees, but I hate them because they are good and I wish my team did as much to try and win.

See not everyone that hates the Yankees loves ESPN.....so of us just hate them for what they have done to us in the past.

The point is not that a pitcher got hurt running the bases, he could just as easily been injured covering first base, the point is the commissioners cowardice to address the multitude of inequities in baseball. Having two systems in place is ridiculous. Nut up and force the DH on the National League. Nut up and move Houston to the AL West. For crying out loud why have one division with an extra team and one with a team short? Dump this unbalanced interleague play which forces some teams to play schedules against tough opponents while others play patsies. Quit punishing teams for their geographic positions, the best teams should be in the playoffs regardless of what division they play in.

He got hurt Running!!!!!! We all run daily.  Is his ace such a candy-ass that he can't do an everydaything without help?  Does he need to have someone feed him as well?  What if he hurt himself on the steps of the dugout, do we eliminate steps in all stadiums in America.  Sack-up and sign tougher players.

I laughed out loud Scott Miller, I really did.  I almost died laughing at this absolutely hilarious blog.  O, the reason why I laughed.  I laughed because you sound exactly like a 12 year old.  No I didn't laugh at your cleverness, I'm sorry to say, I laughed becuase I am wondering how you ever became a jounalist in the first place.

Jeez. Hank is worse then George. See at least George is old and senile. If Wang gets hurt running to a base, then he can get hurt fielding a ball or even running back to the dugout. There is pitchers in the league that hit better then some batters and he wants to eliminate pitchers having to run and hit. Yankees would love to have Dontrelle Willis or Rick Ankiel in their lineup with the crapload of underachievers they have there.

Hank is the worst owner in baseball, I can't believe he said that it's completely ridiculous.  I think having the DH in one league and the pitchers hit in the other is very cool.  It gives baseball something that no other sport can boast about. It definitely makes the World Series more interesting.  Hank wouldn't be that mad if it was Josh Beckett got hurt.  It was just a freak accident and is an idiot for saying what he said.
