After asking for a release and visiting Seton Hall, Herb Pope has decided to return to New Mexico State, Aggies coach Marvin Menzies told CBSSports.com on Friday morning.
"He was just investigating an option that would bring him closer to home because of some personal issues," Menzies said. "But that wasn't something that materialized. ... So he's more than happy to return to New Mexico State for the season."
A 6-foot-9 forward, Pope averaged 11.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per game last season while leading NMSU to a 21-14 record. But his future became uncertain in recent weeks when he ventured across the country and visited Seton Hall. According to sources, Duquesne was also considered. But Pope told the Aggies staff Friday morning that he will return to New Mexico State, and Menzies said his star sophomore is expected to begin classes as early as today.
