I've been to Oklahoma and Notre Dame the past two weekends and listened to folks from both schools tell me they have the nation's best inside-outside duo. At OU, there's Willie Warren and Blake Griffin. At Notre Dame, there's Kyle McAlarney and Luke Harangody. Honestly, I think either duo can make a reasonable claim to the title. But the whole thing got me thinking about which combinations might really be in the running for best inside-outside duo.

Here's a list off the top of my head ...
  • Oklahoma (Willie Warren and Blake Griffin)
  • Notre Dame (Kyle McAlarney and Luke Harangody)
  • North Carolina (Ty Lawson or Wayne Ellington and Tyler Hansbrough)
  • Pittsburgh (Levance Fields and DeJuan Blair)
  • Connecticut (A.J. Price and Hasheem Thabeet or Jeff Adrien)
  • Arizona State (James Harden and Jeff Pendergraph)
  • Southern California (Demar DeRozan and Taj Gibson)
OK, who am I missing?

And which combination is the best?

Nation's best inside-outside duo?

What about Diamon Simpson and Patty Mills at St. Mary's? If you watched Mills torch Chris Paul for 20 in the Olympics, then you should know this guy is one of the best PG's in the country, and Simpson averaged all but a double double last year (13ppg and 9.6 rpg).

Nation's best inside-outside duo?

Sherron Collins and Cole Aldrich at Kansas.  Cole outplayed Hansbrough in the Final Four and has tremendous potential.  Sherron was probably the best sixth man in the nation last year when he was healthy, and he gets to take over as PG this year.

Nation's best inside-outside duo?

I wouldn't have a list without ROBERT DOZIER and TYREKE EVANS. If you are going to put USC and Taj Gibson in there, you gotta put Dozier. Dozier definitely outplayed Taj Gibson when they met last year. He scored 19pts against the physical Georgetown Hoyas. He put up 18 on Arizona. He came through in the National Title game when Joey Dorsey struggled and scored 11 points but grabbed 10 rebounds and 1 that would have won the National Title if Rose makes the free throw. With more scoring opportunities this year and you add Tyreke Evans, consensus top 5 player out of high school,  to the mix from outside. If you include Derozan, you gotta include Tyreke. How do you leave them off the list? You don't!

Nation's best inside-outside duo?

Is there any question who the best is?

Hansbrough and Lawson/Ellington has the most experience, the most points scored and the most synergy out of anyone.  And I'm not just being a homer.  I'm stating the facts.

Nation's best inside-outside duo?

Best - Wayne Ellington and Tyler Hansbrough.  Hey Gary did you know that these two set the single season school record for most points by a duo at UNC last year.  And we all know a lot of Great Duos have played at Chapel Hill.
