Withey planning to transfer from Arizona

Freshman Jeff Withey is expected to transfer out of the Arizona program before ever playing a game.

The Tucson Citizen on Wednesday reported Withey skipped an afternoon practice, which immediately sparked questions about his future given how his mother had been quoted extensively expressing her displeasure with Lute Olson's abrupt retirement last week. Even then, a Withey transfer seemed realistic. Late Wednesday it was confirmed as a reality, and now the Wildcats will embark on a less-than-ideal season without one of their primary post players.

Withey was ranked as the 35th-best prospect in the Class of 2008. That the 6-foot-11 center will never actually play for the Wildcats means he'll join Brandon Jennings (now a pro in Italy) and Emmanuel Negedu (now a freshman at Tennessee) as Class of 2008 standouts who signed with Arizona last November but have opted not to follow through on the pledge given the uncertainty surrounding the program.

Arizona's first exhibition is Nov. 6 against Incarnate Word.

The Wildcats will be coached this season on an interim basis by Russ Pennell.

Withey planning to transfer from Arizona

Yeah, 6'11" players don't come too often.  You would imagine the news of another program picking him up would come before Withey deciding to transfer (NCAA rules aside).  What an abhorrent grammar critique.

Wow! You think of all those words yourself or did you pull out the Websters. Impressive. My favorite is "abhorrent".

The quality of your U of A education is apparent in your post.  One usually must attend a far more exclusive bastion of knowledge to generate such poorly constructed sentences, employ improper punctuation, erroneous capitalization, abhorrent grammar, and laughable spelling.

35th best player? 6'-11'? Hmmm. Looks to me like Jeff Withey has plenty of options. Community College? Nope. Pro's? Doubt it. This story will finish itself soon enough.

Now, how about some early season, tourneys?!!

If I remember correctly...

If I remember correctly, Jeff Whithey originally commited to Louisville, but changed his mind to play closer to home. Now Louisville doesn't need him with Samuels and Jennings both coming in this year....Bet he regrets that decision.

Withey planning to transfer from Arizona

I am so happy to hear about  his mothers displeasure, a stroke is a "huge" inconvenience
.  So sorry Miss Withey. I am not sure what to make of it though.  He had to leave U of A, (i went there and its a wonderful learning institutuion),  education is not her first thought,  her son is a freshman, so i guess he could attend a community college and get an associates degree.  Or turn pro, never see a minture, maybe gets get injured and his mothers good sense to fall back on.    I wish her meal ticket, nothing but luck. he is going to need it.
