John Calipari became Memphis' all-time winningest coach early Tuesday.

Few hours after that, he won again.

"Next year I'm going to take my game to Memphis," Xavier Henry said at a morning press conference that was broadcast live on national television.

Henry is the nation's top-ranked shooting guard, a 6-foot-6 specimen who chose Memphis over Kansas to end a lengthy recruiting battle between the two schools that played for the national title last season. His pledge gives the Tigers a centerpiece to what is now a four-man recruiting class, and it'll allow Calipari to turn all of his attention towards John Wall (nation's top-ranked point guard) and Dominic Cheek (nation's third-ranked small forward), both of whom visited Memphis this past weekend and left many close to the program with the feeling that the Tigers might be on the verge of securing a class that could rank as the nation's best.

Here's an updated look at's top 20 from the Class of 2009:

1. Derrick Favors (uncommitted)

2. John Wall (uncommitted)

3. John Henson (committed to North Carolina)

4. Xavier Henry (committed to Memphis)

Nice to see that you're still smarting from the NC loss.

All Memphis fans, congratulations on Xavier Henry's signing to play ball at Memphis.

So much crowing about one recruit, who will stay one year. Yes, any program would love to have him sign with them, but life goes on.

Check back IF you win a NC!!! Until then I'd say chill out a little. What do you really have to brag about??? You get great recruits and haven't closed the deal. Your program may learn what Houston learned with Phi Slamma Jamma...Stars don't always win championships. Usually TEAMS win championships. I would have thought you learned that last year???

Oh well, as the song goes....Some fools never learn, play with fire and you're going to get burned!!!!!!!

Nation's top shooting guard commits to Memphis

Dr Dick - The Shiver said that Henry was leaning towards Kansas until yesterday, while people like Parrish and Goodman said Henry committed to Memphis a long time ago.

Good Call... maybe you should keep advertising your bobo-ass website.

Memphis Fans,

You can win this recruiting battle because we have the better coach and last year's championship trophy.  KU doesn't need the top recruit we are a program not a stop along the path of a 1 and done player.  I agree with Collins that if Allen Fieldhouse does not make you want to come then we don't want you.

Bluegray213 - By your grammar and spelling I can see why Darrell Arthur had such a tough time with classes at Kansas.

Nation's top shooting guard commits to Memphis

CBS Sports, Fox, Rivals & Scout all dropped the ball on this signing. X wasn't going to sign until spring, huh? A little blog called The Shiver was the first one to break this story.  The high paid guys like Parrish and Goodman should be ashamed to be trumped on this big news.

Rose, Evans & Henry - I see a pattern of top players going to Memphis. They keep reloading.

1)  World Class facilities (both game and practice)

2) Chance to play for the reigning Naismith Coach of the Year

3) Ability to develop your game in an NBA style offense (in contrast to Self's, uh hem, pick and roll offense)

4) Chance to become a legend in the eyes of the rabid Memphis fan base

5) Chance to play in front of 18,000 people inside an NBA facility

6) Opportunity to make deep runs during March Madness (2 elite eights and 1 Final Four during the last 3 years)

7) Opportunity to play for a family like program where you will be pushed to the limit of your abilities.

--That's just the few I could think of off the top of my head (I only got 1 hour of sleep last night due to our game with UMass)

Well, atleast its over.  Good luck to Xavier at Memphis, I hope he has a long and successful career, just as long as he doesnt win a national championship.  Kansas still has 2 studs coming in in Robinson and Johnson and hopefully we could add a 3rd in either Cheek, Wall or Stephenson.  Either way we should be returning a lot next year and once again make a run at a national title.  And most Kansas fans arent sour grapes,  I mean, although disappointed I am not bitter and/or pissed that the kid wanted to play with his brother at a program who was in the national championship game last year.  I think KU basketball will be all right.  So if Mr. Cheek, Mr. Wall or Mr. Stephenson would like to join us and make a run at a title, even its for one year, we will be more than happy to have you.

Do I sense a little resentment in your voice?  That's a classic post of a fan who's program can't quite pull in top tier recruits no matter how hard they try.
