LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- UTEP got a good win for C-USA.
Dave Neal was terrific for Maryland.
Here's Friday morning's What You Need To Know:
Notable game from Thursday: Remember my column the other day about how C-USA is trying to breakthrough and get multiple bids to the NCAA tournament? Well, UTEP helped the cause with a 75-62 win over Saint Mary's in the quarterfinals of the 76 Classic. Stefon Jackson finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Miners while Randy Culpepper added 20 points. Next up for UTEP is a semifinal tilt with Wake Forest.
Notable performance from Thursday: Dave Neal averaged 1.6 points through three years of college, and then got 17 in 17 minutes in the fourth game of his senior year to lead Maryland to an 80-62 upset of No. 5 Michigan State in the quarterfinals of the Old Spice Classic. The 6-foot-7 forward made all three of his 3-point attempts and both free throws. It marked just the second time in 66 career games that Neal has notched double-figures.
Notable game(s) scheduled for Friday: The Old Spice Classic here at Disney didn't get the semifinal match-ups most expected, but they'll still be great. It's No. 12 Tennessee vs. No. 21 Georgetown followed by No. 9 Gonzaga vs. Maryland. So that's three top 25 teams and four schools with a combined record of 14-0. Tennessee-Georgetown is set to tip at 1 p.m. ET; Gonzaga-Maryland is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. ET.
