LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Officials here at the Old Spice Classic just announced next year's field for the event.
Here it is:
- Alabama
- Baylor
- Creighton
- Iona
- Marquette
- Michigan
- Xavier
An eighth team will be finalized at a later date, but a possible storyline from the seven programs locked in could include an early look at the player who should be the nation's best incoming freshman, that is if John Wall actually follows his AAU coach to Baylor. Beyond that, it seems obvious that the 2009 field won't match the 2008 field that featured three top 12 teams (Michigan State, Gonzaga and Tennessee). But the Old Spice Classic has still become one of the best early season tournaments in college basketball in a matter of just three years, thanks primarily to Disney World being a nice destination for Thanksgiving and the exposure ESPN provides the event's participants.
