Scottie Reynolds hit some clutch free throws.
Desmond Yates had his best game of the season.
Here's Friday morning's What You Need To Know:
Notable game from Thursday: Villanova overcame a double-digit halftime deficit and beat Saint Joseph's 59-56 thanks to a pair of Scottie Reynold's free throws with 4.8 seconds remaining. When Reynolds stepped to the line, the Wildcats were down a point on their homecourt. But the junior guard calmly sank both shots to give Villanova a 57-56 advantage, and then Dante Cunningham stole the subsequent inbounds pass, was fouled and sank a pair of free thows himself to create the final margin. Villanova is now 9-1; Saint Joseph's is 4-5.
Notable performance from Thursday: Desmond Yates got 27 points and 13 rebounds to lead Middle Tennessee State to an 81-53 victory over Troy. Both numbers were season highs for the Sun Belt Conference's Preseason Player of the Year, who made 13 of 18 field goal attempts and helped MTSU improve to 4-3 overall, 1-0 in the Sun Belt. Troy is 3-6 overall, 0-1 in the Sun Belt.
Notable game scheduled for the weekend: The only match-up of Top 25 teams will take place Saturday, when Memphis visits Georgetown in a non-league showdown featuring two of the nation's best freshmen, namely Tyreke Evans (Memphis) and Greg Monroe (Georgetown). Evans is averaging 16.2 points for the 5-1 Tigers while Monroe is averaging 13.3 points for the 6-1 Hoyas. Tip-off is set for 2 pm ET live on CBS.
