Notable game from Thursday: After a tremendous start to the season, Minnesota is now floundering a bit. The 21st-ranked Gophers lost at Northwestern last weekend and backed it with a 70-62 home loss to No. 18 Purdue in which they shot just 27.6 percent from the field. JaJuan Johnson led Purdue with 19 points, eight rebounds and five blocks. The Boilermakers are now 15-4 overall, 4-2 in the Big Ten. Minnesota is 16-3 overall, 4-3 in the Big Ten.
Notable performance from Thursday: Da'Sean Butler took 18 shots, made 11 and finished with 27 points to lead West Virginia to a 75-58 victory at Georgetown. It was the second consecutive game in which Butler has netted 27 points. The effort pushed West Virginia to 14-4 overall, 3-2 in the Big East. The 12th-ranked Hoyas are 12-5 overall, 3-3 in the Big East.
Notable game scheduled for the weekend: Duke is merely a home win over Maryland from moving to the top of every reputable poll thanks to Wake Forest's loss to Virginia Tech. The Blue Devils are 17-1 overall, 4-0 in the ACC. They have wins over Michigan, Xavier, Virginia Tech, Davidson and Georgetown. Meantime, Maryland is 13-5 overall, 2-2 in the ACC. Tip-off is set for noon ET on Saturday.
