Connecticut's Jerome Dyson will be out indefinitely with a torn lateral meniscus of his right knee.

Dyson injured the knee in the first half of Wednesday’s win over Syracuse.

He underwent an MRI Thursday afternoon, and results showed a tear.

He will undergo surgery within the next week.

“We are obviously all very disappointed for Jerome, who has been such a big part of why we are 23-1 and in first place in the Big East,” said coach Jim Calhoun. “I know that he will work hard in the offseason and be back next year as a major contributor to our future success. As for our team going forward this season, it is another challenge we will have to face. We have very good players who I know will rise to the occasion and fill the void left by Jerome’s absence.”

Dyson was averaging 13.2 points per game.

He has reached double figures in 18 games and led the Huskies in scoring five times.

The Dyson injury is a big one but all the dome and gloom about not having a shot in the tourney now lets all just cut that out right now.  UConn is a team in every sense of the word, it wasnt Dyson that made this team go it was everyone and now that he is out someone will have to step up.  I seem to remember a year ago right around this time Dyson was suspened and UConn was entering into the toughest part of their schedule.  What happened AJ Price emerged and Craig Austrie went from forgotten to solid player and the team won 10 in a row.  My point is that players step up, new stars emerge.  You got Kemba Walker ready to become a star, you have Stanley Robinson, who has shown flashes and can be that big time player.  Lets not forget UConn big 3 Adrien who is the heart and soul of the team and its emotional leader. Thebet the best shot blocker in the country, a man that can change a game without taking a shot.  AJ Price the floor leader and a guy that has alot to prove.

Now as for the Carolina fans on the board listen you have a great team no doubt but lets be real.  You guys play no defense in most games and that has been your downfall the last couple of years.  You say that Thebeet would get dominated by Hansbrough I dont see it happening, you must not have seen this guy play he isnt a 7'3" statue like most of you think, he is a nimble athletic big man, that doesnt foul.

Then you bring up the schedule, well lets see they went into ND and won and broke a 45 game home winning streak, they went into Freedom Hall and destroyed Lousville, they beat Miami (a tough team from the ACC, that beat Wake by 27 who beat you guys), Villinova, Wisconson, Gonzaga.  So lets give credit where it is due and lets see what happens in the next fews weeks because unlike in college football it will all be sorted out on the court.

This is a big loss for Connecticut. Jerome Dyson was the second best scorer on that team. AJ Price is a hell of a shooter and Hasheem Thabeet who's a beast and a potential number one pick, but you have to have another weapon on that team who can shoot. However, I still think Connecticut is a title contender but losing Dyson is gonna be hard.

Hansbrough's not that good?  The reigning National Player of the Year is not that good?  Oh, I didn't get the memo...

Wait, does Thabeet have 2600 pts and 1000 rebounds?  No... and he NEVER WILL, hahaha.

It's time for that big dumb moron to go to school and it will happen in March.

UNC has one more loss than UConn... and that's because UNC doesn't have an easy schedule like West Va and Rutgers LOL.

There is no way on Earth UConn will beat UNC.  They just have never faced anyone like them.  Polls mean nothing.  UNC is the best team in the nation.

Psycho T is going to EAT THABEET ALIVE.  Thabeet is just a big dumb animal that stands there like a tower and puts his hands up.  Are you forgetting Hansbrough dunked the hell out of a 7'7" Asheville player?  HAVE YOU NOT LEARNED ANYTHING?

It's not just the top tier of a conference that determines your schedule, it's your bottom tier too.  Any team UConn beat, Carolina could beat by twice the margin (we're averaging over 20 points margin, COUNTING two losses...)

Try putting UConn on Carolina's schedule.  Can you say 19-5?

OK, and this is why all the ESPN comintaters Say that the big east is by far the best confrence in college bball, and by the way uconn blew out your miami team, they suck. and plus NC has twice as many loses than uconn... Gzaga, miami, Wisconsin, Mich, West Va, Villonova, Louisville, NDame, Syracuse. all the ranked teams that uconn has beat the crap out of. mich wasnt ranked but they beat ucla and duke. so that being said north carolina sucks. 8p

Dude, you obviously haven't watched any games outside the ACC this year. Who gives a ratz azz about the bottom tier of the BE or ACC. Georgetown was ranked when they played UCONN and they were much better then. UCONN has also played outstanding ball since.

Dyson will definately be missed, however this team is deep and exteremely talented. The biggest difference that I see is they really want it this year and are playing much more aggressively and as a team than in recent years. There aren't ANY teams in the ACC that I worry about facing come tourney time. Hansborogh hasn't faced anyone like Thabeet in his career. He would be limited to jump shots. Bring it on!!! GO HUSKIES!!!
