It'll be a late night for the Top 25 (and one)

CHESTNUTT HILL, Mass. -- Just got settled here at Conte Forum for Duke-Boston College, and I wanted to make you guys aware that the new Top 25 (and one) won't be updated until really late tonight, if not early Monday (i.e., after midnight on the east coast). The reason is because Southern California and Arizona State are playing in a game scheduled to tip at 10 p.m. ET, and it would be premature to file the Top 25 (and one) before that's complete.

So get your coffee brewing, my friends.

We're staying up late!

And by the way, don't expect much change in the middle of the rankings.

Or for the teams that lost to be punished greatly.

Why?

Because everybody lost.

Seriously, the only schools in the Top 25 (and one) outside of the top four that did not lose this week are No. 7 Michigan State, No. 8 Memphis, No. 20 LSU, No. 21 Illinois, No. 22 Missouri, No. 25 Gonzaga and No. 26 Purdue. In other words, the teams ranked ninth through 19th each took at least one loss, which is yet another example of the parity in college basketball.

WVU and Florida State should be ranked.  Ohio State and Purdue should not.

Does anyone really think that Purdue or Ohio State could beat either of these teams head-to-head, if the game were played today?

Also, to all the Memphis fans, I agree you have a good team.  Before you start tearing on the Big East, or ripping on Syracuse, remember that you LOST to Georgetown and Syracuse.  You did beat Seton Hall and Cincinnati, but have lost to both pre-season "elite" Big East teams you've played so far.  Perhaps things will change in the tournament, but you need to calm down.  Your best win so far was against Gonzaga.  Your second best win was against Tennessee.  Your team needs to prove itself with an elite win.

Gary, I must say it will be a shame if you rank UCLA or ASU and don't include Washington. All the broadcasters and anaylysts hyped up the game between UCLA and ASU as the battle of the 2 titans of the Pac-10, and yet both of them have lost to Washington rather convincingly. I'm not saying that they cannot beat Washington, but they haven't, and as far as I'm concerned, Washingotn sits alone atop the Pac-10 right now, and until ASU or UCLA beats UW they should be ranked no higher.

We want to keep how strong Memphis really is a top secret! That way no one will have any pressure until the see how strng the Memphis Tigers are in the NCAA Tournament...and it'll most likely happen that way, as with a couple other squads. Teams like Memphis, USC(if they can get in), West Virginia, Washington, and Michigan State are probably going to hit their stride come March because guys like Delvon Roe, Tyreke Evans, Devin Ebanks, Demar Derozan, and Isaiah Thomas are going to have a regular seaon of experience under thei belt and will most likely begin playing like they know what they're doing finally.

Arizona State gonna be MOVIN UP!!! It's a beautiful thing. They should be only one more quality win away from their first tourney since Eddie House was lightin teams up in the Pac-10. They are playing their best team basketball right now and if they can keep this up, we are talking about a dark horse team with a pure scorer who can get others involved(James Harden) and a legitimite established post presense that leads the nation in FG% who can be effective on the block and with the mid range jumper(Jeff Pendergraph). Just sayin...watch em! They key to the Sun Devils' success is their defensive pressure(which is almost always clicking) and their ability to shoot the three(the most inconsistent part of ASU's game).

Not to pick at you Gary but Syracuse, not listed among the teams that won (your #19) beat G-town, I know they lost as well, but that was also to the #1 team and #16 teams.

Additionally, to all the BE haters out there, I think we are starting to see how good the BE really is with the wins that Notre Dame had over Louisville and WVU had over 'Nova.

Gary:

Please do not rank the Memphis Tigers higher than #5.

We want to keep how strong Memphis really is a top secret!   That way no one will have any pressure until the see how strng the Memphis Tigers are in the NCAA Tournament.

Give the top new ranking to our friends at Louisville -- our former Conference USA rival who couldn't stand the heat from Memphis and went to the Big East.   The Big East is great and Louisville had a strong win this week.   So give their egp's a lift and let them have the top new ranking.

I really won't matter, as it is performance that matters and all the Memphis Tiger Fans know our guys will again be having a superb NCAA Tournament.

Good luck to all the Great Teams and collegiate basketball fans.  See you soon in the Tournament.

Do Texas and Louisville get credit for crushing bad teams in a week like this one?
