Griffin still waiting to be cleared

Posted on: February 25, 2009 11:14 pm

Blake Griffin met with doctors again Wednesday and even shot a little, but the Oklahoma star still has not been cleared to return to contact drills or live action, OU coach Jeff Capel told CBSSports.com late Wednesday night.

"Right now we still have no clue (if he'll play Saturday against Texas Tech)," Capel said by phone. "It takes time, and we're not going to do anything to rush it. We want him to be OK before he plays again or before we even put him in a position to practice with us again."

Griffin suffered a concussion in the first half of Saturday's loss at Texas, then missed Monday's loss at Kansas that dropped the Sooners' record to 25-3 overall, 11-2 in the Big 12. The 6-foot-10 sophomore is the overwhelming favorite to be the National Player of the Year and top pick in June's NBA Draft, but for now he's still sidelined with lingering effects from a freak mishap.

"He's getting better," Capel said. "But it's a slow process, and we don't want to speed it up."

Griffin still waiting to be cleared

These are typical hater responses to the nations best player....

I have no hate for Griffen what so ever. I actually love watching him play. I dont think its unreasonable to question this injury at all.

I would just like to thank halo27legend for continuing to spout your "fake concussion" nonsense once again.  Any chance you get to show your dumbassedness is alright with me...the more people here that see it, the better they will feel about their own lives.

Thank you once again, kid.

YES THATS CRAZY. THE MAN IS A BEAST, BUT IF THAT ALL IT TAKES TO GET HIM OUT, I MEAN WHAT U THINK THE APPROACH OF OTHER TEAMS IS GONNA BE. BE PHYICAL AND DNT LET THIS KID HAVE ANY BREATHING ROOM. A GOOD PLAYER WILL BOUNCE BACK BUT HES GOING TO VERY VOLUNERABLE.. THE BIG EAST AND ACC IS WAY MORE PHYICAL THAN THE BIG 12.. IF THEY PLAN ON BRINGING HIM BACK IN THE TOURNEY AND EXPECT OKLAHOMA TO EXCEL THEY GOT ANOTHER THING COMING.. A MATCH UP IN THE SECOND ROUND WITH A BIG EAST OR ACC TEAM THERE GOING DOWN... HANDS DOWN MANS DOWN!!!

Griffin still waiting to be cleared

If you've never had a concussion you shouldn't be commenting on why Griffin hasn't been cleared or that he's a wuss for not playing. Unfortunately I've suffered a few concussions, the last one I still don't remember how or when it happened. It took me months before I was able to recall the couple of hours before my concussion. I still haven't a clue about the accident or the two to three hours afterwards. So, before you pass judgement on a kid who would much rather be playing than sitting, try putting yourself in their position first.

Yes, you are.  The brain is nothing more than a fragile sponge floating in saline.  It only takes a tiny force, in the right (wrong) direction to cause major problems.

In a phrase your immature! Please try responding with some actual thought process. Its easy to get upset and call people dummies and stupid considering your the idiot without a brain. So please try growing a brain and a pair of balls "owassored"(ebonics for dumb).

Yes I've played officiated Basetball my whole life from age 7 to highschool.I still dribble the ball correctly. I also played football, and enjoy watching MMA and Baseball although I dont participate or train. Why are you curious if I played, my outlook on the BLAKE the FAKE situation made sense. Just admit your feelings got hurt because your home-town hero got some negitive critism. Well time to grow from a teenage mutant little queer to a MAN. So come correct next time poser!

Blake is weak and will get MAN-handeld against Cole. Keep your hopes up for a Big 12 title next year little guy.

....dime

In a phrase, you're a freakin idiot! Have you ever played any sports in your life? Obviously with that logo of yours, you are used to watching whose basketball in the mighty Conference USA! You might not buy his injury, but I will buy that you're an idiot!

Griffin still waiting to be cleared

"he no longer has a concussion...'  It takes a pretty thorough examination and a lot of expertise to make that conclusion.  Dimedroper, how thorough was your examination of Griffin.  Also on Cole's broken nose,  broken noses most commonly are a result of a side blow, that is, a blow across the face that catches the nose.  It spins the head somewhat, but there is frequently no trauma to the brain.  So one cannot directly equate a blow that causes a broken nose to one that causes a consussion.   I just can't believe that so many fans think a guy that has so much to play for would fake an injury?

I agree with your last line though.  Go Jayhawks.  MU is looking tough, we better be on our game.
