Lawson likely out vs. Radford, Williams says

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Ty Lawson isn't expected to play in North Carolina's NCAA tournament opener.

"There's a huge, huge probability he will not play," coach Roy Williams said here Wednesday afternoon.

Lawson missed the ACC tournament with what is being described as a jammed or sprained big right toe. He said he went through about half of practice Wednesday morning, but it seems Williams either did not see what he wanted or does not think it's worth rushing Lawson back for Radford, because the odds of the ACC Player of the Year competing Thursday are unofficially slim-to-none.

If Lawson is out, Bobby Frasor will start in his place.

The Tar Heels are 1-1 without Lawson this season, 27-3 with him.

"If I don't play Thursday, I'm sure I'll be ready by Saturday," Lawson said. "When it comes down to it, I'm going to play."

Congratulations, jayhawkgrant. You have just posted the most ridiculous and idiotic comments I've heard on this site in a VERY long time. And that's sayin' something. You are dumb.

Radford loses by 20. Lawson is NOT overrated. Frasor is NOT lousy and would take you to school under any circumstance.

Enough is enough.  How deep do you see your defending Natty Champ Jayhawks going this year?

That's what I want to here!!

I second that. We are gonna need him at some point in the tourney. I just think this is a precautionary measure done by Coach Williams. I don't believe that he is hurt as bad as Coach Williams would let you believe. Go Heels.

Lawson likely out vs. Radford, Williams says

We won't need him vs Radford, or even Butler/LSU, barring Butler/LSU getting hot in the 2nd round, UNC will cruise through the game, giving Lawson more rest.

Lawson likely out vs. Radford, Williams says

There is absolutely no question that UNC doesn't need Ty during the opening weekend, so it would no doubt be a very smart move to keep him out as long as possible.

On the other hand, there are reports from credible sources stating that Lawson's injury may be in fact a form of turf toe.  If this is the case, Lawson will be limited for the rest of the tourney to say the least.  This would be a huge blow to the Tarheel's chances to win a national title if Lawson remains limited into next weekend.

Lawson has the heart of a lion, similar to what we saw with Derrick Phelps in '93(who led UNC to a championship playing hurt) I think we will have a great run in the tournament.

Go Heels!

There's only one thing that matters when it comes to UNC and the first round: 96-0.

Lawson's injury only becomes relevant as Carolina goes deeper into the tournament.
