Naismith Coach of the Year finalists announced

Let's see you have a Hall of Fame coach,a#1 seeding, youre playing your first games in North Carolina, most of the entire media is picking you to win it all, Dickie ( I am picking Carolina to win it all every year) Viatile who bores the rest of the nation with rants about ACC basketball, Duke and North Carolina at top of his list. It must be hard to take when your program and coaches are being snub.

I was speaking a little tongue-in-cheek with my CAPEL/CALIPARI spelling comment.  IMO, I think Bill Self should win COY this year.

Why is everyone saying all this about "Dixon did this and this over six years: and  "Williams was the fastest to do this"  It is not coach of the last six years, they call it coach of the YEAR emphasis on year.  I like Trent Johnson to win.  It is hard to turn around a program that was in the final four a couple years ago, then they have a season like last years'.  Then Johnson came in and turned them into regular season champs with the same starting five they had.  That is impressive coaching, not to mention producing a conference player of the year.  How can you give Dixon consideration without considering Calhoun and Pitino?  UConn's only had three losses, two of which were to Pitt and one to a really good Syracuse team.  Pitino won the "toughest country in all the land's" regular season title, and conference tournament earning his team a number one seed.  And I think Roy Williams should have beens in this running.  Pre-season number one and he hasn't dropped out of the top five all year long, including the longest run at number one for any other team.  With Marcus Ginyard they don't lose a game this year.  Ginyard on Douglas and Vasquez and it would have been two different stories.  Like I said out of those men I choose Johnson based on his team talent, and team turn-around.

Don't coach at UNC if you want consideration for coach of the year. Dean Smith was snubbed almost every year even though he was one of the best to ever coach the game and all his teams ever did was win, win win. Now it is Roy's turn to get snubbed. One more win and he will be the first UNC coach to win at least 30 games 3 years in a row. By the way, didn't Roy also reach 500 wins faster than any other coach. I believe that Capel and Self and Dixon are deserving but Johnson? After having said all that, I believe Capel wins and deserves it the most. I can't believe that I said that, being a Tar Heel fan and pulling for a Dookie.Cool

I think Dixon is under consideration because assuming he wins his opening-round game against a 16 seed he will tie the record for wins in the first 6 years of a career...and if he beats OK State/Tennessee he'll be all by himself.

Dixon? Didn't he have a pretty good team from the start? I agree with Johnson and Self, fantastic coaching jobs this year. Lorenzo Romar should have been given a sniff as well with what he has accomplished this year. Not enough exposure perhaps.

I think I will stick with the Sports Illustrated. They seem to know a thing about sports. Can you say Swim Suit issue. Anyway how can you not give it to Bill Self.  One more question did Naismith ever coach in Atlanta? What up with it being there? Thats like saying the New York Atheletic club would give out the Wooden Awards.

where in the post does he say Calipari?

I see Capel, Dixon, Johnson, Self.

Calipari should be included, but I don't understand why you're ranting at Gary (unless Calipari's name was originally posted, then pulled down.)
