Dominic James' season-ending injury wasn't season-ending after all.

“I don't know how much he'll be able to contribute,” Marquette coach Buzz Williams said after announcing early Sunday that his senior point guard has been cleared to return to action after breaking the fifth metatarsal on his left foot Feb. 25. James had surgery Feb. 27, began rehabbing immediately, and will now be in uniform Sunday when the Golden Eagles play Missouri in the second round of the NCAA tournament, this despite the school initially declaring his college careeer complete.

“The thing that I'm excited about is we're going to give him an opportunity to close out his career in the best way he possibly could," Williams said. "And I think the recovery has been due in large part to his work, but also because of the wisdom of Ernest (Eugene) and Dr. (Darrin) Maccoux."

James is averaging 11.4 points and 5.1 assists.

Marquette's James cleared to play Sunday

He practiced for 90 minutes yesterday.

He'll have a special brace to protect his foot.

He's playing!

Marquette's James cleared to play Sunday

This will definately be a boost for Marquette.  Dominic has a ton of drive and determination. If he can help the team in any way possible, he will.  The fans in Richmond, IN are excited to see him play again.

Marquette's James cleared to play Sunday

Its surprised me totally that James is playing today.  What a lift for Marquette!  I have not seen alot of Mizzou this year, but they are a great team in a good conference.  This might be one of the best match-ups of the day.   I have never written to a comments page before, but this one has the real, true sports fans as far as comments go.  keep up the good work all you fans real fans out there!  This is going to be a heck of a tournament!!

Marquette's James cleared to play Sunday

Coming from a WVU fan, I wasn't expecting this at all. It's been about a month since surgery. Can he actually contribute? How healed is it? Really glad to hear he is back!

Marquette's James cleared to play Sunday

As a Mizzou fan Im glad to hear DJ's gonna play, I want to see if the Tigers can go up against a strong Big East program who has beat some of the big boys. If we can beat them at full strenth, then I think we can play with anyone. This game will go a long way to showing me what this team is capable of. I expect a close hard fought game and hopefully the Tigers pull it out in the end when Marquette's players run out of gas....MIZ

Marquette's James cleared to play Sunday

Surprising news to say the least. I don't think he'll make much of a contribution on the court, considering he hasn't played in weeks and won't have the neccessary conditioning.

At the very least though, Marquette will have its floor leader back, and James might be able to calm his team down a little bit against a relentless Missouri defense.

This game is going to be fun today. Hopefully, Mizzou can keep those guards out of the paint (not an easy task, however) and use Lyons and Carroll to its advantage against a small opponent. We have to get Lyons and Carroll touches and we need better shot selection, and of course we have to come out with defensive intensity. If the fire's not there for Mizzou early on, this one could get ugly, because the Tigers don't have enough natural talent to win on that alone.

Marquette's James cleared to play Sunday

Anything he can give will be a plus.  But this is all about how it motivates and provides any help it can to Jerel McNeal and Wesley Matthews, whose games have fallen off the map since the injury.  It'll be most interesting to see how quick James is on his feet on defense.

Marquette's James cleared to play Sunday

I'm glad to see that the Pitt and UConn fans have gotten to the heart of the matter: This is great news for a young man who thought his career was over.  I'm also a Pitt fan, and I've never much liked Dominic James as a player, in large part because he's been a constant thorn in our sides.  Still, anyone who follows the Big East knows how good this kid is and should feel happy that at least he'll have one more chance to suit up for Marquette, regardless of how it affects today's game or our brackets.

Marquette's James cleared to play Sunday

Marquette is a completely different team without James. His coming back will provide better opportunities for Matthews and McNeal to hit shots. Marquette will have a huge boost and I expect them to win in a tough battle. Glad to see Dom back for his senior year!
