Naismith Player of the Year finalists announced

It's a race between two people, Blake Griffin and Tyler Hansbrough. I'm a Tar Heel fan but I believe it's hands down Griffin. He's the most important player in the nation. Without Blake, OU will not be in the Elite 8. Plus he's a baaadddddddd man!!! Go Tar Heels!!!

both Hill and Harden deserve it more then Tyler

Neither one of these guys should be in consideration for player of the year.  Granted they are very good basketball players, but it has more to do what you AND your team have accomplished.  All of these players play on teams that have at some point been number one, 3 out of the four players play on a number one seeded team.  The fact is Tyler Hansbrough still managed to lead a very high-powered, offensively oriented (5 players average double digit scoring) in scoring.  If anyone deserved to be in this list in replace of Hansbrough would be Ty Lawson.  He was the catalyst for this offense and his presence affects the whole team.  Check Danny Green's scoring production during his absence.  But basically if Harden had Arizona St. at a two seed and they were still involved in the tourney he would probably be included on this list.

Griffin sewed this up a good month ago.  He's going to win.

That said, the more I see of Blair, the more I think he could be a worthy recipient of the award.  Griffin is definitely more flashy and athletic, but Blair is a beast.  Although I don't think it's going to happen, IMO, Blair is the only one who can challange Griffin and possibly win the award.

Blair chewed up Thabeet and spit him out, so that takes Thabeet out of the running.  I can't imagine a College POY ever NOT winning his conference's POY.  Ty Lawson won the ACC POY award, so that takes TH out.

I'll be shocked if Griffin doesn't win it.  We have the added plus of not having to listen to Billy Packer talk about it.

I agree with you Azcatsfan... both Hill and Harden deserve it more then Tyler.  The sad thing is that the way the news covers teams your average fan that isn't as crazy as most of us about our basketball don't even know Harden or Hill.

Yeah, there's no such thing as an East coast bias. James Harden and Jordan Hill didn't deserve to be on this list.

I think the winner is Blake Griffin without a doubt.

Ranking them:

1. Blake Griffin

2. DeJuan Blair / Hasheem Thabeet (tie)

4. Tyler Hansbrough (good player but I think he isn't even the MVP of his own team - TY LAWSON... IMO)

Blake's got it locked.  I sort of wish Lawson would've been on that list too...

Oh no way it should be Hansbrough. Has he had a great career? Absolutely. But the Player of the Year is an award for who was the best player THIS YEAR. And thats Blake Griffen, no questions asked. He has outpaced Hansbrough in EVERY statistical category, and means far more to his team than Hansbrough does to his (not to say Hansbrough's contributions are meaningless, just look at Oklahoma without Griffen)

Here's to BLAKE GRIFFEN for the Naismith!
