  • Kansas (Big 12)
  • LSU (SEC)
  • Maryland (ACC)

Pretty good at both

Almost forgot about the International Bowl... which wasn't even played in America.

So... if we look at teams that are ACTUALLY pretty good at both (read, they won respectable Bowl games,) I'd probably limit it to USC, Texas, Missouri, and LSU.  Or expand it to include teams that won games in the NIT, CBI, or CIT.

If you are going to include Bowl games such as the Las Vegas Bowl, Humanitarian Bowl, and Insight Bowl then you might as well include the NIT, CBI, and CIT.

Bowl games represent 56% of the teams that play FBS football... that is over half.  Teams have to be pretty bad not to get a bowl game.
NCAA tournament represents only 19% of the D1 teams.  NCAA/NIT/CBI/CIT com combined only represent 37% of the field.

Now, using the 4 post season tournaments, you could also add Notre Dame, Kentucky, Florida, Virginia Tech, Tulsa, and Oregon State to that list.

While I know that you could care less about the NIT, CBI, and CIT, the same argument could be made that no one really cares about most of the garbage Bowl games either.  Regardless, it's silly to compare the top 56% of football teams to the top 19% of Basketball teams.

In fact, percentage wise, for basketball to field the same percentage in the post season as football, they would have to create two additional 32 man tournaments even beyond the CIT... that is how bad some of the Bowl games are... 63 teams that aren't even good enough for the Collegeinsider.com Tournament would still have a post season.

With 34 bowl games and counting I really don't see how its even relevant. Especially when 4 of those 8 have also lost a game.

And can we even count Connecticut (Big East)? Not sure the International Bowl played in Canada shuold even count.

Win a BCS bowl game and make it to a Final Four and then you could make a statement like that.  I would take it even a step forward and say lose a BCS bowl game and make Final Four and you are pretty good at both. Oklahoma is the only school that would fit that criteria.

A more impressive list would be schools who's football team is undefeated since 1973 and are in the Sweet 16 in basketball. Go X!
