I was speaking of the reporting in the video that Parrish references. Not Parrish. Though he's made his fair share of cracks at UK's fanbase. And if you ask me, that's part of the reason we get such a bad rep as fans. Pundits who really should be placing the blame at the people who control the situation ... not the fans. Come on media ... get real for once. There's a few (very few) reporters out there that know what they're talking about when referring to who's responsible for the hiring & firing or this program.

I'm glad Parrish has a little more understand and courtesy for situations like this, though, he's made some controversial comments in the past regarding the fanbase.

This whole, "the fans ran the coaches out of town" crap has got to stop. Any idiot in the industry knows that fans have no control over the AD or President of the University. A poll was done by a local news station and the results were 52% - 48% in favor of axing Gillispie. That's from fans who are outspoken enough to log-on or call to vote. I'd say that number would reverse if EVERY FAN were to vote. If the number were 70% or high, then maybe that could weigh in on an AD's decision, but that's not the case ... nor was it the case with Tubby.

Just because our basketball season doesn't consist of a few months of "smack talk" that most other school's college basketball season consists of, people tend to come down on UK fans. Our season here at UK never end. We're constantly monitoring recruiting, coaches, other teams and their recruits, the state of the conference and also reliving past glories. That NEVER ends here at UK. I think we talk a lot of heat because of jealousy. I know that sounds a little arrogant, but how many other school's fans REALLY talk about their program year round? I'd say there's a list of maybe 5 fan bases. Just because we're passionate doesn't mean we have control of the program.

Personally, I think Gillispie was robbed and deserves at least half the credit that next year's team will achieve. Many pundits are already placing UK in the Sweet 16 next year. Well be sure to give Gillispie a call when/if we get there and give him a big thank you because it was manily due to his development of this program. Don't get me wrong. I think Gillispie had his problems, but I don't think it had much to do with the season we had. Hell, I think we would have gotten out there and held the players hands if he thought it might reduce the 20 turnovers we had per game. Are you really gonna try to blame that on Gillispie?

I hope Barnhart & Todd's heads are the next to roll.

 That was terrible... I feel bad for Gillispie and the whole situation that he has had to go through.  I don't know why any coach would want to go to that environment... I know the tradition is one of the best but give someone time to develop a team before you tear them apart.

But gatordude_1... Your argument might be a little more logical without the ridiculously false statements. Like the one indicating that Rupp Arena was "small" and "old." Rupp, while older than many other large arenas of its kind, being built in the late 70s, is still not as old many of the gyms of places like Kansas or Duke. And as far as small, no. It seats 24,000. That's why Kentucky has led the nation in attendance every year but one since 1996. Besides, the University of Kentucky has a deal with IMG to build a new arena in the next few years to go along with the brand new Craft Center, the practice facility that opened in 07.

And while there is a lot of focus on basketball, we don't have a problem supporting our other sports, successful or not, including football. There are plenty of other things to do in Lexington as well. I'm sure it's not the thriving metropolis that Athens is, or Gainesville for that matter (please note the sarcasm) but it is a very nice city.

 If he had an intelligent question in mind it might have been OK to be that persistent.   But what is there to ask at a time like this?

heh heh heh.  Kentucky hired Billy G. They knew of his grating and petty personality.  Then he refused to sign a contract.  Can you say red flag?  The administration of UK had to know there was a possibility this wouldn't work.  And gosh almighty. It didn't.  Today's Div. I Head Coach at such a prominent school with such tradition had better have the abiltiy to relate to the mega boosters. ( re: the ones who pay his salary via the Athletic Assoc. ) He had better have the ability to effectively manage the media blitz.  It comes with the millions paid to you every year.

The UGA job is still open. The Tide snatched up Anthony Grant.  Hmm....  Which school would you want to coach for, considering you'll probably receive similar millions.  Rupp Arena is rich with historic chapters.  And small. And old.  Hmm.....  Which school would you want to coach for, given the facilities.  The only game in town in Lexington is men's basketball.  UGA has a very well run Athletic Department, and many sports competing at a high level and succeeding not only in the SEC, but on the national level.  Hmm.... Which school would you want to coach for, given the fishbowl parameters.

I had to LMAO @ that. It was sooooo Billy Clyde. Honestly, the man is just not too bright. He's shown this over and over, for instance, when he couldn't think of the word 'disagree' on a call-in talk show not too long ago. The phone to the ear w/ no apparent dialogue, his idiotic running, and this classic gem, "respect me, I'm on the phone." LOL Respect what? He just got canned, and he brought it all upon himself. Well, along w/ an unrealistic fanbase, that is.

As for the reporters chasing him, that's what their breed does. It's always annoying at least, at worst it's incredibly obnoxious, and has even proven somewhat dangerous in the past. But in this case, keep stalkin' B. Clyde! He's the 2nd coming of Dubya, and I already miss some of the more outlandish 'Bushisms' our former Prez used to dish out like a particularly f'ed up quiche...

this guys name is alan cutler.  you should read the post on . this is the station he works for.  this was a shameful thing to do to billy g, he is a good guy and should be treated with more respect.  journalists can let their emotions overcome them and thing can get out of hand. i hope mr. cutler reviews this and realizes how stupid he looked. he can't use the excuse he was just doing his job, that wasn't doing his job.  good luck billy in your next job.  thanks for patterson, you deserved another year.
