Who's next at Memphis?

Mike Anderson is off the table.

Now Memphis will likely turn to USC coach Tim Floyd.

Multiple sources told CBSSports.com that Floyd is the probable target and that the native southerner would listen, though it's unclear if he'd want to follow John Calipari at Memphis unless the money was too much to turn away. As one source put it: "Tim already followed Phil Jackson in Chicago. Why would he want to follow Cal in Memphis?"

Fair point.

A list of other possible candidates includes Ole Miss' Andy Kennedy, Western Kentucky's Ken McDonald, UTEP's Tony Barbee, and Florida State's Leonard Hamilton. And if the boosters who are upset with Calipari for leaving wanted to send a message that Memphis will remain nationally relevant -- and infuriate their former coach in the process -- they could package a lucrative deal similar to the one they were prepared to give Calipari and make a run at Calipari's nemesis, Bruce Pearl. On the surface, it seems unlikely that Pearl would consider leaving Tennessee for Memphis, but a contract worth $3 million per year would make him think about it, I'm certain.

Who's next at Memphis?

I would try to keep John Robic (lead assistant) and Josh Pastner (recruiter). It could at least keep a bit of consistency and may even keep a recruit or two.
otherwise...
I have heard no one mention Fran McCaffrey from (Sienna). Not a huge name, but a fabulous coach.

 Wow !! So basically you're saying that UK beat Tennessee by an average of something like 16 points this year because your team had a difficult time getting up to play the boys in blue? You're an idiot. UK had yet to get beat when Jodie Meeks beat you guys on your floor basically all by his self. That was great defense by the way... then you come into Rupp after we had started our decline and we waxed you again. You and I know we own Tennessee in basketball much to the tune you own us in football.

I'm not going to try to argue but I pointed out on your board that maybe it had to do with BG's coaching philopshy (couldn't beat VMI but could beat UT)...

Or it could be that they have it in their head (like all Kentucky football players do) that they are going to lose that game.

And you try to knock on UT not making it past the sweet 16 with Bruce Pearl but this program has never made it past the sweet 16 and it was an accomplishment to make the sweet 16 two years in a row and the tourney 4 years in a row... A national title would be nice but you have to keep your expectations in line with the school your root for.

Bruce Pearl maybe a little less class but just the same intensity.

Not a problem for me. Everyone is going to have problems making it pass the first 4 years.

Who's next at Memphis?

 This will probably evoke chuckles and chortles, but since we're throwing names out....

There's an assistant coach for the Grizzlies right here in Memphis who would be, in my humble opinion, EXCELLENT for the job.  He has stellar NCAA and NBA stats/creds, been a player and a coach, and would transition nicely into the spot...

Damon Stoudamire.

"I think Pearl just couldn't keep his guys motivated when they played bad teams and they played down to the level of the competition.  It is hard to get the guys up when they are playing the 4th or 5th team in the SEC east like UK was this year."

Except the first match up at Knoxville was early in the SEC calendar, UK was about to be ranked and was undefeated and so in first place in the SEC when Jodie Meeks blew up on the Vols, and the second time UT was playing at UK, it was supposed to be a payback game, and UT was in a struggle to win the East with KY, USC and Florida. Had Kentucky won their last two games of the regular season, UK would have been SEC East champs  So nice try, but a miss.

Buying John Calipari as your new coach . . . $25 million;

Stealing Memphis' 3 top six high school recruits . . . $7 million;

Stealing Memphis' entire coaching staff . . . $2 million;

Stealing current Memphis Players . . . $1 million;

Selling your soul for a national title . . . PRICELESS!!!

 Why am I the only one who thinks Fran McCaffrey should be a very highly sought after coach.  I have no allegiance to Siena, but what he has done there is remarkable!

To that point, just so have an opportunity to understand just how stupid you sound in that post it would be like me talking trash about the UT football team after they killed us for the 24th time in a row. Why would I do something like that unless I was a little crazy? I also realize that UK has been down for the last 4 years in basketball but at least get your basketball program past the sweet 16 for the first time ever before you come back and talk trash about UK.
