Pitino to Memphis? "No way in hell"

DETROIT -- Bruce Pearl is a realistic candidate at Memphis.

Rick Pitino, not so much. was the first to report Pearl as a legitimate candidate to replace John Calipari, and multiple sources have since added that if the Memphis boosters approach Pearl with a lucrative deal he would be open to considering a move to the western side of the state. Meantime, The Commercial Appeal has reported that, in addition to Pearl, the Memphis boosters have expressed an interest in trying to lure Pitino from Louisville with a deal that would give him more money than Calipari just took from Kentucky. But an industry source told that there's "no way in hell" Pitino would move to Memphis, even if the school promised to make Richard Pitino, Rick's son, the designate coach in waiting.

So the bottom line is this ...

Pitino: No.

Pearl: Show me the money.

Rick Stansbury of Mississippi State???

He is a good coach and would be a good back-up plan for Memphis.

Easier to get players to Memphis than MSU...

Money talks

Money talks. He'd leave for the money... He's got just as big an ego as Calipari. To be known as the highest paid coach would suit his ego.

Bruce Pearl would not be a bad choice. It wouldn't be like a UT alum getting the job you dummies...

Andy Kennedy. Are you kidding? He shouldn't even be on the list.

Rick Stansbury should be, though but he isn't a WOW. And he doesn't recruit the one-n-done kids so Memphis would not have the big win-low loss records year in and out.

There aren't very many one-n-done coaches out there and when you get past the street ball kids who were not quite for age or talent reason to be able to go straight to NBA (they'll be going to Kentucky now) you will be recruiting for talent against NC, Duke and some of the east coast schools that are good SCHOOLS for the kid that wants a good education, too.

 1. gary williams won't come to memphis.

2. i like bruce pearl, but a lot of fans will associate him with UT. i think it would be a nice little f u to both UT and calipari, personally.

3. mike brey won't come to memphis.

4. don't want andy kennedy. he's a racist idiot and not a "wow hire" at all. that would probably be our last resort.

I only hate Pearl because I hate UTennessee.  I think he would be a great hire for us (Memphis).

Memphis Fans need to get realistic.

There are 4 really good choices that seem likely:

1. Steal Gary Williams away from Maryland after a year of bickering and turmoil with Administration.

2. Offer Bruce Pearl a ton of money and steal him away from Tennessee.

3. Check into Mike Brey at Notre Dame and see if the Big East beat down he took this year makes him ready to go to another school.

4. Offer Andy Kennedy, if he's smart, he'll take the job.

Pearl is a no go in Memphis & you know that!!  That would be what they call a "settle hire"! What the boosters said yesterday was, "they are 100% committed to making a WOW hire"!!Pearl is not a WOW hire & there are only a few people out there that would have that label.  Pitino is one!

Bruce Pearl???  That'd be going from a hero to a zero.  Fans would jump off the wagon so fast, it wouldn't be funny.

Why would we (Memphis) even expect that Rick Pitino would entertain the move?  Maybe Roy Williams, too, after he wins his national championship should be on the list, too LOL.

Seriously, how about Sean Miller, Tubby Smith (how ironic would that be?), or Andy Kennedy?

What is this, musical chairs?

And why aren't we talking about Jeff Capel taking the Arizona job?  He's reportedly already in negotiations there.
