UNC vs. MSU again? Seriously?

DETROIT -- Perhaps a rematch between Barack Obama and John McCain can serve as the undercard.

Or how about Ivan Drago-Apollo Creed II?

Because those are the only things I can think of that were as lopsided as the first game between North Carolina and Michigan State, that 98-63 debacle here at Ford Field that had Tom Izzo wondering whether he was dumb for scheduling the made-for-TV event. When the horn sounded, the Spartans were 4-2 with an 18-point loss to Maryland and 35-point loss to North Carolina, and though many spent that December night suggesting the Tar Heels would return to Ford Field during the first weekend in April, how many of you really thought Michigan State would be the school playing them for the national title?

Rest assured, I didn't.

Hell, as recently as Saturday at noon I didn't think Michigan State would be playing them for the national title. But here I am, late Saturday (early Sunday, technically), writing about Monday's title game between UNC and MSU, and I couldn't be more excited despite that December blowout, because I don't think this game will be anything like that game.

Why?

Because Goran Suton is playing.

(He was hurt last time.)

And because 70,000-plus will be cheering for the Spartans.

(Only 25,267 attended that December game.)

And because this Michigan State team is better than that Michigan State team.

(It just is.)

Similar to Billy Donovan's first national championship team, Izzo has his Spartans playing well at the right time, playing their best down this stretch, and sometimes that's the key to this stuff. Of course, North Carolina is playing well right now, too. Awfully well, in fact. So it's possible Michigan State might just be out-manned Monday night, and Tyler Hansbrough will get the send-off most have long expected.

Or maybe not. Honestly, who knows? But either way, what I do know is that this city will be jumping for the next 48 hours, covered in green from Canada to Greektown, and the build-up to Monday night should be splendid.

With any luck, the actual game will be, too.

With Izzo on one sideline, I'd say it's more likely than not.

It would help everyone else understand this comment if you told us first you were writing it as if the 35 point blowout earlier this year didn't happen.

You were a higher seed than Kansas YOU WERE supposed to win.

Part of your challenge for losing 7 regular season games. Was a No. 2 Seed.  Your job was to beat (2) No. 1 to get to the finals. You did it. Congrats.  Now if you beat 3 in a row, you definitely deserve it.

That being said. Carolina is NOT Louisville and Carolina is NOT U Conn.  They are playing a team that is not only playing well but also on a mission to finish what they should have done last season.

Tom Izzo is a great coach, he knows how to game plan very well.  But to put him above or below Williams is insane.  Both coaches know how to coach and have won the big one before.  So please get off Izzo JOCK and show some respect for Williams.

Carolina wants to point out the ass whooping they gave Mich St. in December and Mich St. wants to call them a different team.  THEY AREN'T a different team.  They are the same group of players with the same coach on the same mission.  Are they playing better, I would say so but please stop saying they are a different team.  THEY ARE NOT!!!!  Which takes me back to the SUPER Coach Izzo.  If he is such a mastermind how did he lose that badly in December.  Funny thing is they beat 2 other top teams right before they lost to Carolina and I don't see much posting on how BADLY they played against them.

Get off the "Oh we are the 16 seeded Spartans going against the Greatest B-Ball team ever" Cinderella story.  YOU WERE A #2 SEED.  You got there cause you are good.  You beat every one you were supposed to.  And #2 should be able to beat #1.

Bottom Line,  Tarheels ROLL  87-56.

UNC vs. MSU again? Seriously?

People keep saying...."They're aren't the same team they were back in December."  Ummm, Neither is Carolina! They've gotten better too obviously!  They keep talkin about Travis Walton slowing Ty down....Not happening! Villanova's defense was suppose to slow him down = didn't happen! Pargo was suppose to have a miss match against him = made him look foolish. Length of LSU and OU's guards were suppose to slow him down (not to mention he played with a hurt toe) = Mission Failed! He's just too fast to contain! You saw how Reynolds/OU's guard/and Pargo got in early foul trouble tryin to guard him. So like I said saturday when they played Nova....The ONLY way  MSU can win, is if UNC has a HORRIBLE shooting night! They didn't shoot well against Nova (40% from floor, 59% from free throw) and look what happened. Like Parrish has said all season....Offense is the key to winning games! The only way to beat them is to outscore them because they're gonna score close to 80 on whoever they play...if not more.
