Calipari takes Cousins to UK

DeMarcus Cousins will follow John Calipari to Kentucky.

"I just committed tonight,” Cousins told Scout.com's Evan Daniels late Tuesday. “I’m going to UK.”

Cousins had spent the past month committed to Memphis, where Calipari coached until he left for Kentucky last week. At the time of Calipari's departure, Cousins did not officially decommit. But it was clear the McDonald's All-American probably wouldn't sign with Memphis regardless of the next coach, and that became public knowledge late Tuesday when Cousins -- who is rated as the sixth-best prospect in the Class of 2009 -- committed to Kentucky.

Now to the questions ...

1. What does this mean for Daniel Orton?

There has been speculation that Orton -- the 12th-best prospect in the Class of 2009 who signed with UK under Billy Gillispie -- would ask for a release if Cousins committed to Kentucky because Orton and Cousins are both big men, and if Patrick Patterson were to remain in school UK would have a crowded frontcourt. However, sources close to the Kentucky program told CBSSports.com that Calipari is working to keep Orton on board, and the ideal scenario would be Orton and Cousins enrolling together.

2. What about Xavier Henry and John Wall?

At least one media outlet reported that new Memphis coach Josh Pastner would hire Henry's father, Carl, in an attempt to keep the McDonald's All-American committed to Memphis, but industry sources told CBSSports.com that's simply not going to happen. Thus, Henry will re-open his recruitment and probably choose between Kansas and Kentucky. As for Wall, the nation's top point guard prospect remains uncommitted. But Kentucky is very much involved, meaning there is a chance that Cousins, Orton, Henry and Wall could play together for Calipari at Kentucky, although it's unclar whether that's a likely scenario or merely a possibility.

Wall is the No. 2 prospect in the Class of 2009.

Henry is the No. 4 prospect in the Class of 2009.

Calipari takes Cousins to UK

Whoa, boys!

UK fans...my fellow Tiger fans...quit squabbling!

Point blank: BOTH UK and UM have brand new coaches!  Awesome for both of us!  Memphis does have a slight advantage in one aspect: Coach Pastner is already acclimated to the program, the fans, and the city.

Now, what each coach does in his respective programs is up to them as men and leaders.  Quite frankly, I'm anticipating an outstanding season for my Tigers as I know that Coach P is viciously dedicated to excellence.  I can't worry about what our former coach is doing as I don't support UK bball (SEC-wise, it's Florida all the way as that's my future law school, baby!).  I do know that UK is in store for some exciting times as Coach Calipari afforded Memphis several brilliant seasons.

But, it's Coach P time in Memphis!  We're equally in store for some amazing college hoops ourselves as our new guy has stated that he's interested in recruiting local talent (YES!!!) and he's teethed only on NCAA tournament teams as a college coach.  GOT-TA love it!

So, thanks Coach Cal...for everything.  HEL-LO Coach Pastner...walk that talk, baby!

Yep, heard about that today but I remain confident that Cal can still get him to go to UK. Too many people in that position on Kansas' roster. Playing time at UK would be a given for Orton.

Amazing how some people can't handle the fact that their school is 2nd rate and doesn't hold a candle

to a top tier school like U.K.

Ahhh, the arrogance of KY fans. Next time UK fans are wondering why people hate them, just refer back to this post.

   GROW UP!!!

You would do well to listen to your own advice.

Kentucky has always been a great program. In fact, they are the only reason that the SEC basketball has been overrated for so many years. congrats to Coach Cal and kentucky ... much respect and no sour grapes. My Tigers will be just fine in a couple of years and we'll be clawing at you all.

The new administration at Kentucky is going to have to re-recruit Daniel Orton. One of UK's top signees is hoping to have a chance to see what else is out there

Well, spoken like a true kentucky fan. So, you think that all we care about is our "poor little self." Don't most Kentucky fans do the same. Have you enjoyed your program in the last few years and the losses that you have suffered. I am sure that answer is NO. Neither do Memphis fans. Most Memphis fans will or can not dispute the program of Kentucky basketball. It has been great. Most Memphis fans don't faught the guy for leaving. I have heard several fans say that you deserve the best recruits and coach. You deserve. So, you are better than Memphis fans now. You're progam as a whole may look better than ours, but it doesn't mean you love the game more than we do or our team. Most fans did have great things to say about Cal even now that he is gone. Real classy post... second rate.  Well, you need to grow up.
