Memphis failed in its attempt to hire Baylor's Scott Drew.

Now the new Memphis coach is trying to hire one of Drew's assistants.

A source told CBSSports.com that Josh Pastner interviewed Jerome Tang on the Memphis campus Wednesday and offered the Baylor assistant a job. According to the source, Tang flew back to Waco, Texas, on Wednesday night and is mulling the offer. A decision is expected soon considering the April recruiting period begins Thursday at noon.

Tang just finished his sixth season at Baylor.

Memphis trying to hire Baylor assistant

Memphis fans are like that girl who is fat and has a busted face, but thinks she's Jessica Alba. Their delusion's know no bounds. I honestly had some sympathy for Memphis before listening to their fans talk. Let me let you in on a little secret Memphis....you're wern't a top 25 program in the past, you're not a top 25 program today, and you won't be a top 25 program in the future.

I have given up on confused closet cases like this. Just trying to piss people off with your arrogant douchebag comments. So what team do you follow? Is it louisville, or Kentucky, or are you some bandwagon wannabe that jumps in on the conversation since kentucky has gotten such a controversial coach.

Umm, I doubt that happens. JP is only making 800K this yr and you think a assistant will make more than him, ludricous. If he not happy with 300K tops he need to stay where he is at.

Memphis trying to hire Baylor assistant

ESPN released a report a year ago ranking the top programs in the country over the past 25 years.  I gather you missed where Memphis finished in that report, dustinm.  If you want to be cute with your allegories to set up your point, at least make sure the opinion you espouse isn't completely whack.

Sure, most of us would recognize that Cal was the program for all practical purposes, but Tiger fans supported him to the tune of top ten attendance ratings each year with super followings on the road--loyalty that Calipari had never seen from a fan base before.

For whatever reason, he decided to take a wrecking ball to the program he helped re-establish on his way out the door.  Why?  Selfish reasons, I suppose, one of which I can't help but think was to make sure everyone remembered he was the program.

That said, Memphis has been to three Final Fours in four different decades.  For anyone to suggest that we're somehow done now is to ignore history.  No, we haven't won one, yet, but that doesn't make us unique.  Most schools haven't won a hoops title, and ours won't stop trying to win one, either.  Thus, you'll forgive us if we don't accommodate your request to stop demanding a place in the conversation.

Also, if we hire Tang, Josh better keep him on a real tight rope.

Sounds like a decent hire, Josh Pastner is known to have an excellent basketball mind. What should he do? Go out and hire Nolan and Bobby knight? I think Pastner knows the good assistant that are out there and Memphis has the money to pay the top guys.

Let’s give the guy a chance. Pastner has worked under the best coaches out there. Some of that basketball knowledge had to rub off on him.

Memphis was a top 25 team for the past four years. I think it is you who is delusional. I think you are thinking about KY that hasn't been very good lately. It was KY that had to buy Memphis' team to feel good about themselves.

then Memphis needs to offer Dunlap about a million per year to be Pastner's top assistant.

Josh was one of the top paid assistants at 200plus a year, there are plenty of head coaches that don't get paid that.

Hey Gary, might not be for a national blog, but can you tell us anything about Tang?

Hard to know squat about assistant coaches if your not in the know.

I know Coach Pastner needs some help ASAP.  One man show right now.
