Pastner trying to lure NBA scout

Josh Pastner has asked the Denver Nuggets for permission to speak with Jack Murphy about a job on the Memphis staff, a source close to the program told CBSSports.com on Wednesday.

Murphy is a scout for the Nuggets, a close friend of Pastner's, a former Arizona manager and the son-in-law of Arizona athletic director Jim Livengood. He is respected as a tremendous workout guy, someone Denver coach George Karl values greatly, which could make it tough for Pastner to lure Murphy away from the NBA.

But he's trying.

Meantime, former Rice head coach Willis Wilson and former Kentucky assistant Glynn Cyprien were on the Memphis campus Tuesday interviewing for jobs, two sources added. Wilson was the head coach at Rice for 16 seasons. Cyprien was with Billy Gillispie at Kentucky the past two seasons, and was the primary recruiter of Daniel Orton, a 6-foot-9 center ranked as the 12th-best prospect in the Class of 2009.

Orton told Scout.com's Evan Daniels last week that he might re-open his recruitment.

He is expected to make a decision on whether to stay with UK or look elsewhere in the coming weeks.

jamammy.. im with ya... but.. basketball players are so smart on camera now..

he would NEVER publicly state that cal was wrong. never.

i think they were so close.. that antonio leaving had (at least a little) to do with cal's decision on the UK job.

AA's a class act and i have to think that he must feel what Cal has done is not right. I think anyone with half a brain can see what Calipari is doing is not right. I can say with a fair amount of certainty that AA is unhappy about what Calipari is doing but I also believe he would never say it publicly out of loyalty to him.

Willis Wilson will be on the Tiger's staff and is currently working out of his hotel room on behalf of the U of M.  If you want to go see him, he's at the Hilton off Poplar Ave (the old Omni Hotel).  He'll probably be having lunch in the restaurant in about 30 minutes.  Anyway, the situation is that they have to post the job for a specific period of time (I think 48 hours) before they can submit a person for the job.  He'll be announced tomorrow most likely.  Same thing for Glen Cyprien.  The situation with him is a little different in that he will be out recruiting from day one.  His number 1 target will be Daniel Orton.  Sort of.  See, he's already signed with Kentucky, so he has to reach out.  Fortunately Cyprien is in with his AAU coach, so he can reach out that way.  Or so I'm told.

Not sure Dr. AMG. I think the reports are that he interviewed, but i haven't seen anything official.  I guess i'm looking at another non productive day at the office listening to 560 and checking the news for announcements on assistants and recruits.

You're not a psychologist are you?  I think i may have a little OCD issue! LOL

I agree with you.  AA has been my favorite player the past 4 years...i always like that guy who can do it all and is just a competitor.  You can win a lot of games with a team full of AA's who'll pay D against the other teams best player, dive for loose balls, and challenge everyone else to get better.  I'll never forget those free throws to beat Texas A&M in the sweet 16, nor his last second layup this past year to beat Tulsa.  I'm glad he and Dozier are permanent fixtures in the Forum rafters, and really, i think CDR should have gotten some type of recognition.  I think all of the Tigers' First Team All - Americans are up there, and i'd like to see CDR there too.

AA's a class act and i have to think that he must feel what Cal has done is not right.

wait, he's not along anymore.  didn't we hire willis wilson yesterday?  i thought that was a done deal????   i know he needs more, but hopefully we'll have even better news by the end of the week.  i know that it normally can take a lot longer, but we don't have a lot of time.  we need a full staff way before the may 20th end of signing period.  don't you think?
