Report: Curry will enter NBA Draft

Just a few hours after DraftExpress.com's Jonathan Givony reported that Stephen Curry -- a likely lottery pick -- will soon announce his decision to enter the NBA Draft, Davidson coach Bob McKillop, perhaps in response, told the Associated Press that his star guard is still undecided.

So that's where we're at right now.

Givony says Curry will be in.

McKillop says the future remains unknown.

Either way, I'll say this: I have no idea who is sourcing this story for Givony, but I'm 99 percent sure it comes from the NBA side, and NBA people are typically the most plugged in on who is coming and going, the college coaches often the last to know. It's kind of like coaching searches in that the people getting left are usually a step behind the folks on the other side, because coaches (and in this case, prospects) almost always tell the people associated with their futures that they're coming before they tell the people they're leaving that they're leaving.

Does that make sense?

Bottom line, Curry is "officially" still undecided, sure.

But Givony reporting it's done is probably a good sign that it's done.

Which means the Southern Conference will likely need a new star next season.

Getting left... is that the proper way to say that? Sounds weird to me when I read it.

Anyway, this is a big blow for the Southern Conference, but at least they got another year out of Curry and were able to capitalize on him somewhat by the additional coverage their league received. Best of luck to Curry in the NBA.

Curry will be nothing in the NBA.  He is not strong enough or  big enough.  He will be a backup combo guard, will his full potential that is around a Lou Williams......

I guess he figured they won't get any better.  Davidson pretty much fell back into mediocrity last year, and everyone started to realize without Curry, it's just Davidson.  I don't think he can accomplish more at the college level that he can't hone in the NBA.  People say he's to weak, easier to pay for personal trainers and gyms with a NBA salary, especially lottery pick salary.  In fact I'm sure a lot of gyms in NC would let him work out for free just because he's Stephen Curry.  I don't think his career will be all too illustrious though.  Maybe sixth man like a Jason Terry, but then again Terry has been in the league for a while, and didn't start coming off the bench until the latter part of his career.  I hope he continues to improve each year, because there are going to be pretty of good enough players in every draft from here on out, and Curry's skills could easily be replaced.

I would have agreed with you before he played the point this year.  I think he'll be able to put on strength as a pro.  He'll certainly not be starting right out of the gate, but I think he'll get a chance to prove himself in a backup PG type of role.  He can certainly shoot so teams would have to respect that, and he got a lot of dishing done this year on a team of lesser talent.  I don't think he'll be a star, but I don't think he'll totally flop either.

Report: Curry will enter NBA Draft

I think its fair to say they are getting left behind. I instantly think of all those players that Coach Cal recruited in Memphis that have been there for a year mayber 2 or 3. The coach does all the behind the scenes work first, then once its final he tells the players. They are getting left behind as they didnt go to Memphis to play for some other coach, especially one they havnt even met yet!

In Curry's case, the people at Davidson should see this one coming however. The buzz is out there, and he can maximize his potential right now, it would benefit him to go back. He's already taken that program as far as they can go, he's made a name for himself while doing so, and built quite the NBA stock at the same time! Im pretty sure there wont be any surprises when he goes, but his teammates will feel a little left behind as they are forced to head in a new direction.

Report: Curry will enter NBA Draft

Although inches shorter and without the length, it's not entirely improbable that Curry could have a Reggie Miller influence on a team's success. He seems to have IT. Drazen Petrovic comes to mind when finding a comparative shooter. Further in Curry's defense, from what I have read he is a hard worker and understands the game very well, so those two intangibles will elevate him above mediocrity. Also, as illustrated by many pure shooters in the past, its all about fit. If he is drafted into the right system he will find success. That being said, his hard work will need to start on the defensive end. Coaches are much less forgiving of one dimensionaly players then in years past. If he does not improve this side (which has much to do with strength conditioning) he may end up in long conversations with JJ Reddick about the comforts of a good NCAA carrerr and an NBA bench.

lol  Steph Curry< JJ reddick? WOW except that Curry is a better shooter, who plays solid defense (Reddick plays none), and is a slasher who can also create his own shot very well. That is precisely why Reddick isnt playing the NBA right now, cant really do any of those things, but he can shoot however! Curry, will definately play a bit more than reddick!
