Patterson returning to UK

Patrick Patterson is withdrawing from the NBA Draft to return to Kentucky for his junior season, sources told CBSSports.com on Friday.

School officials have now confirmed the news.

“In the month that I’ve been at Kentucky, I’ve been blown away by Patrick Patterson,” said first-year coach John Calipari. “He is one of the nicest individuals I’ve met and one of the fiercest competitors that I’ve been around. I’m thrilled I get to coach him next year.”

Patterson averaged 17.9 points and 9.3 rebounds this past season, and his return to the UK frontcourt will allow Calipari to work with a roster that should be favored to win the SEC even if the Wildcats don't have Jodie Meeks (still undecided on his future) or John Wall (still uncommitted). On the other hand, if Calipari lures Meeks back to school and then enrolls Wall, there will be no ceiling on what can be accomplished, and Kentucky would likely steal some first-place preseason votes from Kansas and be among the favorites to win the national title.

Meeks has until June 15 to withdraw from the NBA Draft.

Wall is still considering many schools -- among them Kentucky, Duke, Miami and Florida.

Patterson returning to UK

Well I guess "TNTIGERFAN" is obviously wrong about patterson not starting since he did not send me a link to the "QUOTE" I guess he is just alittle sore that coach Cal is not at mephis anymore and the the fact that coach Cal's dream was to coach at Kentucky. I believe that Patterson is back and will start and will stay 1 more season and go to the NBA. But I also believe that meeks will retuen for his senior year.

Patterson returning to UK

Of course it is a good move for Patterson. Who wouldn't want to be a part of potentially a huge turnaround and breakout year for UK under Calipari!? I hope no one is giving him grief about the NBA bargaining agreement causing him to make less money as a rookie by not entering the draft this year. I hate people talking about shallow crap like that! He will make plenty of money in the NBA!! I don't care if the entry level money is less than it is now... good players make money. Period! And now Patterson, with one more growing year in college, and learning under Coach Cal, will have every opportunity to be one of those players who make plenty of money in the NBA, no matter to what the salary structures are changed.

Patterson returning to UK

Bahahahaha - I don't know what I found more humourous: the obviously made-up post by TNTigerFan or the posts below his from people that clearly missed that point. Seriously people, how could you possibly consider that post legitimate after the first paragraph?

Patterson returning to UK

Agreed.....
have to remember this is UK and Rupp...Patterson's leadership and experience will make a huge difference for the first several months.
Meeks will do the same if he returns.

(just so I'm not mobbed....I feel the same about the experience factor at KS, UNC, Duke, UCLA, IU, etc.)

Go Cats!

Patterson returning to UK

Ok I have heard all of your quotes except for the one that says "He will be a great addition to our bench and probably one of the top 6 man in the country next year. "  I promised  Bledsoe and the other recruits they  would start not Patrick" I was wondering where this information is coming from. I am not being mean or trying to make you mad I would just like to know where I could find this info. If you could post where you got the info I would gladly appreciate it.

General Studies to Foreign Languages

Patrick Patterson also said that he was coming back to school not to win the National Championship like Tyler Hansbrough did last year but to actually change his major from General Studies to Foreign Languages.

"In the few weeks I gathered information on where I would be or should I say not be selected in this years NBA draft therefore I will be returning to Kentucky to learn French, Spanish and some German because that is where I Expect to be playing professionally after I graduate.
Everyone said this was going to be a down year and I still was not going in the top 2 rounds."

Patterson returning to UK

This is great news for the Big Blue Nation!! I have to assume that Meeks will return as everything I have seen is putting him in the 2nd round. You know with one more year left he comes back to improve his status. Let's just say that John Wall does make the decision to attend UK for the one year he'll be in college... does this really put UK in National Title talks? I would think so just with the talent alone but let's look at it for a minute.

Obviously with Beldsoe, Orton, Cousins and Hood that is a major talent upgrade from last years team. That said, it wasn't like we didn't have talent so I have to assume that the coaching job by Billy Clyde Gillispie was the main reason we didn't make the big dance. This now begs the question of who will be allowed to stick around at UK on a scholly? Think about it... without Wall we have 16 players with 13 scholly's as of today. I believe Williams, Stewart and maybe Josh Harrellson could be on the way out. That still would leave one more IF John Wall comes along for the ride.

Any thoughts on how this will work out?
