Memphis commits top-ranked shooting guard

Memphis has endured a lot of negative headlines over the past week.

But now it's time for a positive one.

Because the Tigers just committed a consensus top 10 prospect.

"Me and my brother are ecstatic," Will Barton told CBSSports.com by phone on Friday night, not long after he and his brother, Antonio Barton, committed to first-year coach Josh Pastner during an unofficial visit for an Elite Camp. "We have a strong relationship with Coach Pastner and Coach Cyp (assistant Glynn Cyprien). It just feels like a family atmosphere down here."

Will Barton is a 6-foot-6 shooting guard from Baltimore.

Scout.com ranks him as the No. 1 shooting guard in the Class of 2010.

Antonio Barton is a 6-2 combo guard from Baltimore.

He is unranked on the national level but considered a solid mid-major prospect.

At least a dozen other schools were pursuing Will Barton -- among them Syracuse, Maryland and Kentucky.

"I think it came down to Memphis working the angle of taking both brothers," said Scout.com's Evan Daniels. "Kentucky was probably second (in the race), but I think they only wanted to take Will and Memphis wanted to take them both."

Memphis commits top-ranked shooting guard

Look for Memphis to have a rough year under Pastner and lose 20 gamesYeah we'll go from 1 in the conference to last.  Even though we still have more talent than any other team in CUSA.  Laughing
Look for Memphis to lose 20 but win 1 in St. Louis vs Kansas!

Oh yeah wasnt Memphis SUPPOSED to win the national championship the last 2 years-did they? No-why u ask, because Memphis isnt a winning school, maybe a whining school HAHA!

Difference is at UK those would have been national championships, UK WINS!
LOL
So you're saying that if Kentucky had the exact same players and coach as Memphis in the 2008 championship game that Kentucky would have won just because it's kentucky..?.?....
BWWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH

AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
A8ikman you are hilarious.  A true Kentucky fan.  Up until recently I've never talked to any Kentucky fans.  Never had a reason too I guess.  But one thing I've learned is that KENTUCKY IS THE GREATEST SCHOOL IN THE HISTORY OF EARTH WITH THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS BASKETBALL PROGRAM IN ALL THE LAND.  And also everyone is jelous of Kentucky.  HAHA.  The truth is that nobody cares.  Have fun loosing in the national championship game.  Laughing

Memphis commits top-ranked shooting guard

Wow, some of you people are truly pathetic.  So anyone who has committed to play for, or will commit to play for Calipari in the future... is just a stupid kid that doesn't know anything?   And anyone who chooses to go to Memphis...  (Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the institution being investigated not Calipari?) then those kids are just Geniuses?  I'm not saying Calipari is innocent or not to blame either, but if things were being hidden and covered up at Memphis- (kinda like not telling new coaches about the looming investigation) then doesn't anyone else think maybe there was more than just 1 Big Bad John in the mix?

Seriously it's almost comical how far gone some of you people are.  So before Calipari came to Kentucky, were all the other recruits that signed with UK just the brightest young men around?  Now all of the sudden their brainless idiots because they follow the great recruiter?

As I recall, this tactic was used by John Calipari to recruit Xavier Henry. In allowing Xavier's older brother, CJ, that ensured that Xavier would come to play for Calipari at Memphis. At this point, this story is a really good thing for Memphis. Remember that Memphis let Calipari out of his contratual obligation to allow him to coach for Kentucky. That was a really nice thing for Memphis to have done for Calipari and the University of Kentucky. I am glad to see Kentucky have the opportunity to regain their standing with the elite basketball progams once again. But remember that came as a gift from Memphis. And I am sure that if Xavier had decieded to come to UK, you wouldn't have thought twice about having his brother come along to play as well...

Crap CBS screwed it up.  My post is everything above the Lee Todd-University of Kentucky quote.

If you had read my post you would've seen in parenthases (probably going to NBA early but just play along).  You didn't play along.  I know Cousins Wall and possibly Orton and Bledsoe will go to the NBA early, I was just trying to prove a point that Wall Cousins and Dodson play for Kentucky next season and not Memphis.  You also didn't read my other posts which stated that we are still recruiting Jackson as a backup to Brandon Knight.  Good luck cleaning up the Not Cal's Fault Scandal down there.

their diploma will read The University of Kentucky with Lee Todd's signatureOK, you're just being delusional now.  Cousins and Wall will never sniff a degree.  Dodson might pick one up, and who knows with Bledsoe...I don't think his career at UK will last that long because he'll continually be second-fiddle based on the way Cal recruits guards.

...oh, and I would seriously rethink your Joe Jackson comments.  By all reports not based in Lexington, UK is a distant second in the race for his signature...maybe even third after Tennessee.

I'm not a Memphis, UNC, Duke, or Kansas fan.

But I do know UK has a history of winning championships at times, as well as big scandals too.  It's part of your history.  You cannot sweep all the misdeeds under the rug and say, "but look at all our championships and final four appearances and our all-time winning pct.  Maybe you haven't realized it yet, but how you get to the point you're at in life, in a school's program, is as important as the place you're at, if not more so.  I'm not a recent "college kid."

And, btw, my basketball history IQ is high enough to know (not even being a Carolina fan) that schools like Carolina, Kansas, Duke, and UCLA have much better CLEAN programs compared to Kentucky. They wouldn't even answer the phones there if JC came calling. UK didn't do it the first time, but desperation has set in... shouldn't have gotten rid of Tubby & dealt with the slight lull...

Oh and by the way, the SEC is the best conference in every major sport annually- basketball, football, and baseball. The SEC is consistently the best by far, every now and then a conference will be better in just one sport for just one year but consistently no conference is close either! Hate to break that to you as well, more professionals come from the SEC in these sports than any other conference and particularly big time players. So Get over it and GOOD LUCK, you guys will need it! Idiots!

You're right, mecca is an islamic place-we dont want to be associated with that. How about CAPITAL of COLLEGE BASKETBALL, UK's past is the same as the rest the nations, spare us the race card, its a past tense card-get over it. Who care's about last years tourney, how about the most tourney appearances, wins, final fours, national championships, etc. Oh yeah wasnt Memphis SUPPOSED to win the national championship the last 2 years-did they? No-why u ask, because Memphis isnt a winning school, maybe a whining school HAHA! Difference is at UK those would have been national championships, UK WINS! Why they are the winningest program in college basketball-not Memphis HAHA!UK has won more national championchips in a 3 year span than Memphis and 95% of schools have won in 100 years. Well UK will make him run a tight ship-not an option, yes he will win, UK has the winningest atmosphere and mentality you will find. Come watch a game in RUPP ARENA-nothing is close-Nothing! Come watch UK and UNC play in Rupp in December-Atmosphere will be unreal or come and watch UK play Louisville in December-unreal, or UK play Indiana in December-you can smell the history, legacy, the unrivaed nostaglia. Good luck you will need it, with youyr team, and your basic basketball IQ
