Meeks not returning to Kentucky

Kentucky junior Jodie Meeks will remain in the NBA Draft.

"I want to thank the fans and the city of Lexington. They have been great and I will always be a Kentucky Wildcat," Meeks said in a released statement. "I feel comfortable with my decision and I’m confident in my ability. My family and I talked over the weekend and decided this was the best decision."

Sources told CBSSports.com that Meeks does not have a first-round guarantee, but he has decided to stay in the draft anyway, for better or worse. The 6-foot-4 guard averaged 23.7 points last season while shooting 40.6 percent from the 3-point line. He will almost certainly be picked somewhere late in the first round or early in the second.

This development is an obvious blow to John Calipari's first UK team.

With Meeks back, the Wildcats would've been most people's preseason No. 1 team. Now that honor will likely go to Kansas, although Kentucky should still be a favorite to make the Final Four thanks to a roster that is expected to include Patrick Patterson, John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins.

Conjk123,

Seriously dude, chill out, you are making an a$$ of yourself.  You are embarassing the rational and educated UK fans on here.  Have no fear though, based on your comments I am sure the admin for this site won't let you stay on much longer.

Go CATS!

Good luck to Meeks,  I truely hope he does well.

As to the lunatic who is losing his mind over meeks leaving, CALM DOWN!

Meeks is a great player, don't get me wrong, and I would love to have seen him come back, but UK will still have as much talent as anybody next year.  They will still have a great team and make a run in the tourny.  This will be patterson's team.  You sure your screen name shouldn't be Junnie Browning????

Jodie's a good guy and great talent. He'll be fine. Even if he doesn't make the first round, there are plenty out there giving valuable minutes to their teams who weren't first rounders either. Frankly, it'll back everyone off that "UK will win title in Cal's first year" crap. Shouldn't be any question now; Jayhawks are number one. (I always thought they were)

As it satnds today UL has won the last 2 meetings against your Wildcats so really there is no room for you to talk because you were one of the ones in Decemeber of 2008 who said the same thing about UK waxing Louisville in Freedom Hall. I can provide the link if you need it.

Meeks not returning to Kentucky

Kentucky Fan here?  Good luck with a young team who is loaded with talent but who is going to be the leader of that team Patrick Patterson?  Give me a break he doesn't say a word on the court, Kentucky has a ton of talent but I mean can't be saying anything to L'Ville Fans becuase where have the Wildcats been for a looooooooooooong time now.  Coach Cal can put together great teams but he still hasn't won anything at all in his career and that being said he will continue that streak at Kentucky.  Let's Go HEELS!!!

Meeks not returning to Kentucky

Me thinks the poster above me has some anger issues.

As for Meeks, I was surprised he was leaving at first.  But when I start thinking about it more, with the amount of talent Kentucky's assembled this year, Meeks wasn't going to put up the same numbers as last year or be the main go-to guy. When you take that into account, he may simply believe his stock has nowhere to go but down this year, which for the record I really don't know if that's legitimate or not...
