Meeks not returning to Kentucky

Kentucky junior Jodie Meeks will remain in the NBA Draft.

"I want to thank the fans and the city of Lexington. They have been great and I will always be a Kentucky Wildcat," Meeks said in a released statement. "I feel comfortable with my decision and I’m confident in my ability. My family and I talked over the weekend and decided this was the best decision."

Sources told CBSSports.com that Meeks does not have a first-round guarantee, but he has decided to stay in the draft anyway, for better or worse. The 6-foot-4 guard averaged 23.7 points last season while shooting 40.6 percent from the 3-point line. He will almost certainly be picked somewhere late in the first round or early in the second.

This development is an obvious blow to John Calipari's first UK team.

With Meeks back, the Wildcats would've been most people's preseason No. 1 team. Now that honor will likely go to Kansas, although Kentucky should still be a favorite to make the Final Four thanks to a roster that is expected to include Patrick Patterson, John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins.

Nope - I have really good sources in the news business who say the players leaving won't get the 13th scholarship. He'll go with 12. And don't expect too many walk-ons, either. Cal isn't a big walk-on guy.

Maybe he gives the scholarship back to one of the UK players Calipari dropped so he could bring in his recruits.

He'll go with 12 scholarship players. Apparently, being under the scholarship limit isn't all that unusual.

So what does Cal do with the 13th scholarship?

Enjoy Europe, Jodie

I seriously think Meeks is making a mistake. I'll be shocked if he goes in the first round, and he'll likely fall to late second round. He's not ready to bang against the big NBA bodies yet. He won't make whichever team picks him, and will end up in Europe. And he gave up a probable NCAA title run, a spot on the first-team All-America team, and another year to develop his game under Calipari. DUMB choice.

Oh well. I hear Italy has good food.

dude, what's up with the language.  This is a public site and kids can see this as well.  You need to tone it down a notch and chill out.  This is just a blog site, get a life if you take these things this seriously.  Go outside and enjoy the summer.  I am a die hard UK fan, and you are disgracing us right now with your vulgar comments.

We all know that UK fans hate BG now but to call him a couch is just going overboard.  And a former couch?  Well, I guess Meeks will just have to buy a new one when he gets his first contract. and he will probably go to a team who doesnt know how to use him or know how hes effective.
