Meeks not returning to Kentucky

Kentucky junior Jodie Meeks will remain in the NBA Draft.

"I want to thank the fans and the city of Lexington. They have been great and I will always be a Kentucky Wildcat," Meeks said in a released statement. "I feel comfortable with my decision and I’m confident in my ability. My family and I talked over the weekend and decided this was the best decision."

Sources told CBSSports.com that Meeks does not have a first-round guarantee, but he has decided to stay in the draft anyway, for better or worse. The 6-foot-4 guard averaged 23.7 points last season while shooting 40.6 percent from the 3-point line. He will almost certainly be picked somewhere late in the first round or early in the second.

This development is an obvious blow to John Calipari's first UK team.

With Meeks back, the Wildcats would've been most people's preseason No. 1 team. Now that honor will likely go to Kansas, although Kentucky should still be a favorite to make the Final Four thanks to a roster that is expected to include Patrick Patterson, John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins.

Ok, i believe this could work out for UK and Meeks. At the same time it would have been great if he stayed. Meeks definately would never have had another season like he did last year but he still would have been looked at next year if he did stay. If he did though, potentially some people may have left due to lack of playing time even though he would have had to leave next year. Calipari will find a way to make this all work out but we will miss him dearly.

hmm why would he come back to UK:
1. another new coach for him
2.UK is stack with one n dones
3.playing time will be cut in half
4. team focus and offense wont be on him
5. this years draft will be very very weak

now after all those facts that he prolly already knew or was made aware of why would he come back. Coach cal offense is gonna run through JW and dmCousins, they are also one n dones so they are basically audition for the nba. meeks would be a idiot unless he really wanted to rack up some college hardware that bad. With the draft being weak this year he will go alot higher this year than if he waits next year and sees cousins/JW go way way ahead of him.

Meeks isnt that flashy but is a solid player but with this year draft he has a better chance then coming to UK and being overshadowed and slip in the draft.

Hoosier daddy,

Didn't you read the press release?

"I feel comfortable with my decision and I’m confident in my ability. My family and I talked over the weekend and decided this was the best decision."It is what it is and there probably is more to this than what's being said for example you don't know what his family's situation is but to insinuate that it was some sort of wrong doing just because you're still bitter over Sampson and his cheating ways at IU doesn't mean that everyone does the same.

As far as that goes I'd think the nation and every fan from every team on our schedule for next season just had a collective sigh of relief. Jodie staying in means the beatdown won't be by forty. Just that we'll be good enough to compete with top teams now. But nothing unusual going on as you implied. Look forward to seeing your guys on the court.

The fact he stayed inthe draft into the weekend should have told UK fans he was gone. I got the feeling that Meeks never really meshed with what Cal was doing.

UK will still be loaded but losing a valuable senior leader on what is going to be such a young team stings. Patterson has yet to prove himself to be a leader and the jury is still out on Wall's character. Meeks was at least a guy that could get a big shot when the prssure was on. You have to think that Bledsoe is smiling today though.

It looks like KU will now be the pre-season #1 team. I only hope somehow these two teams cross paths in the tourney. I still think Kansas is the better squad simply because of experience in addition to immense talent.
