Duke likely to add guard in time for this season

It was apparently naive to think Duke would really enter the season with just two guards.

Turns out, the Blue Devils will have three barring an unexpected hitch because Class of 2010 star Andre Dawkins plans to enroll a year early if he graduates from high school this summer, FoxSports.com reported. Industry sources confirmed that report to CBSSports.com and added that Dawkins graduating this summer is a near certainty, meaning this is going to happen.

Scout.com ranks Dawkins as the 22nd-best prospect in the Class of 2010.

He played in the Nike Peach Jam this week with the Boo Williams team from Virginia.

He'll join Jon Scheyer and Nolan Smith in the Duke backcourt and help ease the loss of transfer Elliot Williams.

Duke likely to add guard in time for this season

This helps Duke, but I'm not sure it's as big a deal as it sounds.  My understanding is that he is an excellent shooter, but not a great defender.  Coach K would play the waterboy over a McDonalds All American if the waterboy was better at defensive rotation.

Then again, maybe they haven't recruited enough waterboys lately either.

I would never be concerned about John Calipari's recruiting.

When the time comes, he'll have players.

Always has, always will.

Gary
thanks for the insight into Knight
do any UK fans, such as myself, need to be concerned that UK has no 2010 commits yet?

FYI: I asked a bunch of questions about Knight's connectiont to Lexington over the past week, and what I learned (from various sources) is that his mother DOES NOT live in Lexington. It's a close friend of the mother's who lives in Lexington, and different people believe that means different things.

I'd love for brandon Knight to end up at Duke, but bro he's UK bound.  You can call in the dogs and put out the fire, that one's done.  His mother lives in Lexington.
As far as Barnes goes, good luck getting him away from Kansas.
I'm just sorry Elliott had to leave.  I"m glad he's with the Tigers, but I'm so sorry the reason is what it is.

This would be huge for Duke - he'd be a great addition to a thin backcourt and provide much needed athleticism.  Plus it will be a great way to get experience for 2010 when there should be a larger class of freshman coming in (hopefully led by Barnes and Knight).
