Former Memphis basketball star Antonio Burks underwent emergency surgeries at the Regional Medical Center in Memphis on Monday and Tuesday after being shot during a robbery, CBSSports.com has confirmed.

Burks was shot in the stomach while reportedly watching a dice game.

He has undergone three surgeries so far.

He is listed in critical condition.

The 2004 Conference USA Player of the Year was one of several men robbed by three other men who reportedly swarmed the dice game with guns. Burks and one other man were shot. The second victim is in stable condition, according to The Commercial Appeal . The newspaper is reporting that no suspects are in custody.

Former Memphis Tiger Clyde Wade was also at the dice game.

He was unharmed.

Burks averaged 16.0 points and 5.5 assists for John Calipari's Tigers in 2004. The Orlando Magic selected the point guard 37th overall in the 2004 NBA Draft. His rights were immediately traded to the Memphis Grizzlies, for whom Burks played two seasons. He's been out of the NBA since 2006.

Former C-USA Player of the Year shot in robbery

My prayers are with Antonio Burks.  He was a lightning fast guard who always provided a spark for the Tigers.  As a former Memphis Grizzlies season ticket holder, I enjoyed when Burks occasionally came into the game.  No one could beat him to the other end of the court.  It is tragic that he is the victim of a robbery in the city that propelled him to celebrity status.  Memphis breeds disrespect and hatred and I am so glad to be out of that crime ridden place.

Apparently the law makers know you can't shield yourself so they passed the new packing law. I agree a lot with your approach but with a lot of these worthless aholes they don't have any self respect much less respect for anyone else.

Keep your head on a swivel and keep safe MJam.

Hoping to get by w/o being shot,
G

This is what makes the Barton statement more valid. You can't hide but you can shield yourself.  With a "normal" degeree and his NBA salary, he could have gotten away from the srime to an extent. Yes, Memphis is pretty bad, not for me, I am looking everyone in the eyes and ready to go if necessary or ready to say "yes, ma'am", "no sir" and "thank you".  Either way someone wants to go with it. I am ready mentally, physically and ana;lyy.;

Our prayers are with him and his family. Welcome to Memphis. Hate to be cynical but I have lived here long enough to know this place and a speaking of welcoming isn't there a press conference tomorrow? It's 11:00 do you know where your "hoop family" is?

Coincidence I sure as hell hope so.

Get well Antonio.
