LAS VEGAS -- TMZ has posted a grainy video of Jordan Crawford's now-famous dunk on LeBron James.

Click this link to be underwhelmed.

As I wrote earlier, there was no way the actual dunk would ever match the hype of the dunk, and that seems to be the case. I mean, it looks just about like every other one-guy-dunks-on-another-guy highlight you've ever seen, only difference being you can hardly see it because of the poor quality of the video. And that's why Nike was silly to try to prevent the public from seeing this, because its actions led to freelance photographer Ryan Miller telling me how Nike Senior Director Lynn Merritt confiscated his tape of the dunk, which led to me writing about it , which led to tons of negative headlines nationally and even a skit on "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien."

It's been a public relations nightmare for Nike and, to a lesser degree, James.

And never had to be this way.

Had Nike let Miller keep his tape, a few thousand people woud've seen Crawford dunk on James via YouTube. It would've probably been linked on The Big Lead and Deadspin, and that's about it. But because of Nike's mishandling of the situation, a few million people will now see Crawford dunk on James via TMZ, and Nike's image has been considerably bruised in the process, all because of a power-hungry executive who overstepped his boundaries trying to protect somebody who never needed to be protected in the first place.

UPDATE: has a better version up now.

AD. Life after dunk

You have to be kidding me. After all the hype surrounding the dunk over LeBron James, I have to say I was expecting something more under the lines of Vince Carters leap over that 7 footers head. I saw the good angle and what I saw was, a unexpecting James (hands on his hips) get caught off guard by someone that saw an oppurtunity and took it. James got off to a late start to his jump, watch for yourselves. It was a good play by the kid, a strong move to the hole and he finished. However by making such a big deal out of nothing Nike will have to wait some time to wipe the remaining egg of their faces. Had this had been Kobe Bryant dunking over James in the finals, now then we would have something to talk about. The bottom line is it looked like a pickup game move and should have been treated that way. Does this downgrade LeBrons game in the least? No, but maybe corporations will think twice before trying to cover up something so ridiculous in the future.

ok maybe this would of been different if it was a tape of Crawford beating LeBron one-on-one in a game to 21 by ones and twos. but its just one dunk. no big deal. but you do got to feel good for Crawford. chances are that lebron is one of his idols and he got to dunk on him. i mean if i picked of Brett Favre in a summer mini camp it would be the highlight of my life.

Ditto to all, who cares.  The only interesting aspect of this video, is the guy who shot it is from my hometown.  Big Deal.  King James is still one of the best to step on the court, and I will be willing to bet he will get dunked on again.  It just happens.

That was it!!!!!  Pretty pathetic that Nike would try to keep this hidden.  It's not like LeBron was posterized (see Danny Green's dunk on Paulus) ... he wasn'y guarding the kid but came over to help on D.  All that hype and worry over nothing.

wow, mole hill from 1st page, anyway, what are you going to do if a 6-9 guy with a 40" vert, takes off on you, nothing, why would anyone even try to stop someone in a pick-up game, you, especially lebron, would look like an a$$hole for hacking some kid. So what he dunks on you, good for him, I'm 6-2, white boy, while playing pick-up games, an 6-7 oregon duck basketball player came down, just happened to be at that time the pac 10's leading scorer that year, then right after that got drafted by the spurs at #30 in the draft. I dunked ON him, everybody went nut's, asked me for my autograph and stuff, but nobody ripped on him, they just hyped me up, for like the next 6 months or so, but anyway my friend josh in the same game, just after my dunk, josh was like 6-7 , white boy, he went up for a dunk on this guy and got sat down, dude just went up above the rim and sat josh down on the ground, funniest shiz ever, so he kinda redeemed himself in the same game, a dunk is a dunk, lives for a while , well except for Vince Carters dunk on that 7-0 guy in the olympics, that will live forever, then dies off no biggie, specially for a guy who makes more money than my entire city. So yeah , who ,cares, but good for that kid , he can tell his grandkids, thats what lifes about.

The story here was that LeBron acted like a petulent child in asking for video to be confiscated, and Nike showed bad judgement by obliging.  The fact that the video is now available is an afterthought.  Who cares?  I watched it, and so what??  This is a great keepsake for the kid at the camp, but like you mentioned, LeBron isn't exactly going all out here.  If they played one-on-one ten times, the kid would get schooled every time.  The big deal to me is that I had thought very highly of LeBron James, who impressed me as far more mature than his years.  Between his unwillingness to shake hands on the court after the Eastern Conference Finals and now this episode, it's changed my perception of him completely.  Now, throw him in the same bucket with Allan Iverson, who doesn't want to practice, and Kobe, whose self centeredness drove Shaq out of L.A.  They're all the same, a bunch of self centered babies.
