LAS VEGAS -- TMZ has posted a grainy video of Jordan Crawford's now-famous dunk on LeBron James.

Click this link to be underwhelmed.

As I wrote earlier, there was no way the actual dunk would ever match the hype of the dunk, and that seems to be the case. I mean, it looks just about like every other one-guy-dunks-on-another-guy highlight you've ever seen, only difference being you can hardly see it because of the poor quality of the video. And that's why Nike was silly to try to prevent the public from seeing this, because its actions led to freelance photographer Ryan Miller telling me how Nike Senior Director Lynn Merritt confiscated his tape of the dunk, which led to me writing about it , which led to tons of negative headlines nationally and even a skit on "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien."

It's been a public relations nightmare for Nike and, to a lesser degree, James.

And never had to be this way.

Had Nike let Miller keep his tape, a few thousand people woud've seen Crawford dunk on James via YouTube. It would've probably been linked on The Big Lead and Deadspin, and that's about it. But because of Nike's mishandling of the situation, a few million people will now see Crawford dunk on James via TMZ, and Nike's image has been considerably bruised in the process, all because of a power-hungry executive who overstepped his boundaries trying to protect somebody who never needed to be protected in the first place.

UPDATE: Ebaumnation.com has a better version up now.

They aired it on SportsCenter last night... it was a pretty weak dunk.  LeBron didn't really even get dunked on, he was kinda off to the side of the basket and slid over a little bit, it was definitely no posterizing though.

This post is so good, I thought I would just post it again.  Exactly my thoughts.  Hope you don't mind smittstyles.

Is it just me, or did LeBron show himself to be more mature and down to Earth when he was 16 years old than he has recently?

We vilify athletes for being so arrogant; yet, as a person, how could you stay humble if you were constantly lauded and praised? I'm very impressed with very famous athletes who remain down to earth. It must be very difficult, honestly. I mean, if I go for 20 in a pickup game I feel like King James. Tough line to walk.

I am in no way, shape or form excusing his newfound diva attitude. My point, actually, is that he was one of the most impressive athletes ever because he was so hyped and so good, yet he seemed down-to-earth and fairly humble; and now, he's regressing into a spoiled, all-about me hype machine. It's pretty disappointing from both a basketball and a human perspective.

One thing is for sure: After the Magic incident and now this, for the first time in his career LeBron has rubbed everyone the wrong way and his reputation has taken a hit. He's kept clean thus far, which is relatively impressive. But he's stained now.

saw the tape...was not impressed at all.  it just shows how much of a poor sport he is to want that tape destroyed.  a hint to all you fellow NBA starts out there...if you dunk on lebron next season, he will have the tape destroyed so there is no proof that he got owned on the court.

Absolutely pointless.  Like LeBron has never been dunked on before.  You can still be the man and be outplayed on a play.  He seemed to be out of position anyways and had to come in to try and block the dunk.  Nobody would have been able to.

Parrish is right, the video is nothing, rather boring actually.  Nike screwed this up big time.

Damn!  Did you see LBJ get TEABAGGED!  The kid did a 360 and wham nut sacked!  Seriously, this was sooooo overhyped story since I dunked on Ben Wallace while he attended at Tri-C.  Noone that I knew gave a sh!t when we 1st heard about and still don't.  If you play baseball you will strike out, you play football you will get ran over & for bball, you will get dunked on... PERIOD!  Such a waste of news.

Yea, I liked it better when it was a shadowy myth. Nothing more than a young, athletic player streaking to the basket on a lazy defending Lebron James. Can happen to anybody, any day of the week. Hell if James and Nike considered this dunk damaging enough to cause "Dunkgate," then the couple of jams Courtney Lee had on James in the Eastern finals should retire him.
