That awesome team from Canada freaking lost

LAS VEGAS -- Clearly, I jinxed them.

That's the only explanation for Grassroots Canada's 70-69 loss to New Heights NYC in the Sweet 16 of the adidas Super 64 tournament at Rancho High here in Las Vegas. Jayvaughn Pinkston led New Heights NYC with 19 points. It was an effort that will prevent Grassroots Canada from repeating as champions of the adidas Super 64, and I hope you didn't pay too much attention to that column I wrote Friday.

Anyway, the Elite Eight is now set.

If you care, the matchups are:
  • New Heights NYC vs. Minnesota Pump N Run
  • New England Playaz vs. Compton Magic Black
  • DC Assault Gold vs. Nashville Celtics
  • Memphis Magic Elite vs. Atlanta Celtics J-Smoove
The Elite Eight, Final Four and Championship Game will take place Sunday.

Yes, I've seen Prather. He's not a program-changer, but he will be an important piece to a good program for four years. It's easy to see why he's coveted. Meantime, if Memphis could somehow put together a class featuring Will Barton, Antonio Barton, Joe Jackson, Tarik Black and Casey Prather (plus whatever else), Josh Pastner will be in position to continue the Tigers' dominance in C-USA. I'm not sure that's the class Memphis will get, of course. But the Bartons are done, and no coach in America believes Jackson is going anywhere other than Memphis. If that happens, most think Black will follow, which would leave Prather as the lone question mark. We'll see. But things are shaping up nicely for Pastner, no question.

New England Playaz vs. Compton Magic Black I played against a kids bro that was on the Playaz last year who made a deep run in Vegas, I've heard of some other kids on that team that play in New England.  I heard Lubick's dominating.

Considering

a)  Prather was at Josh Pastner's elite camp in June
b)  Played int he Memphis challenge 2 weeks ago
c)  Gary lives in HIernando, Ms. which is a large suburb of Memphis
d)  Prather is one of the  most recruited players in the 2010 class

Yeah, I'd say Gary has seen Casey play a time or two.

Hey Gary have you seen Casey Prather of the Nasheville Celtics play?  He plays for North Side high school in Jackson TN and he can really ball.  Ranked 60 something in class of 2010 according to Rivals as I recall.
