Syracuse adds top five national prospect

Syracuse added a consensus top five prospect Tuesday when Fab Melo committed to the Orange.

“Fab’s going to go to Syracuse,” Weston (Fla.) Sagemont coach Adam Ross told Scout.com. “I think he really enjoyed his visit there. I think it shocked him and I’m not sure he anticipated what he saw up there.”

Melo is a 7-foot center from Brazil.

Scout.com ranks him as the No. 5 prospect in the Class of 2010.

He chose the Orange over Louisville, Connecticut and Florida State.

Congratulations to the Orange (Orangemen) for picking up a top 5 recruit.  It speaks volumes about Beoheim that he still has the recruiting touch.  Why Kentucky fans have to comment about their team when the article was clearly about Syracuse, is just rediculous.

It's hard to do well in High School basketball when you're not cleared to play.  Quite frankly, I don't believe a word you said.

A couple of bad years with Billy doesn't mean weve hadn't done jack.Lets not forget your talking about the winningest program in collage basketball. Some Kentucky fans can be a bit over the top but when your use to being on top or near the top you tend to set the bar pretty high every year. You would have to be a fan of a school like Kentucky or say UNC to fully understand what its like.
Dont be a hater because Memphis isn't Kentucky. They don't call it the biggest job in hoop land for nothin.
And by the way their are times in down years when are fans are also the biggest credics. But one things for sure bad year or not we are still loyal to the nation. Oh and by the just what has Memphis done???

Hey UKFAN, I saw the same thing last year watching your coach's disinterest as he coached the Memphis Tigers in the sweet sixteen. Speaks volumes! Also, I wouldn't cast any stones at Pitino until Kentucky and your new coach can be sure they are without sin. Let's talk in a year or two.

I'm suprised Jim Calhoun didn't get him! He's been pretty consistent in recruiting big guys over the last 10 or 11 years! Hopefully coach Boeheim will have a decent season this year so he doesn't change his mind!

The guy is, right now, a big stiff. He's got great size, but he hasn't done as well at the high school level as you would think being so big. I've seen this guy blocked by guys no taller than 6'5. As some pointed out, he's sort of a project player, but there is a very high ceiling, you have to figure. Still would have welcomed him with open arms at my school, though. Can't teach 7 feet.

Sour Grapes.  First you guys lose this recruit, then your town gets flooded away.  Bay day to love L'ville

Hey Gary, what happened to UF?

Not long ago I was reading that Richard Pitino's hiring to Florida's staff was swinging Fab toward the Gators. Seems like just a few weeks ago I read where some "insider" or "expert" said Fab Melo to UF was as good as done. Suddenly UF dropped off the Melo-map. What happened there Gary? Did I miss something while I was on vacation?
