Syracuse adds top five national prospect

Syracuse added a consensus top five prospect Tuesday when Fab Melo committed to the Orange.

“Fab’s going to go to Syracuse,” Weston (Fla.) Sagemont coach Adam Ross told Scout.com. “I think he really enjoyed his visit there. I think it shocked him and I’m not sure he anticipated what he saw up there.”

Melo is a 7-foot center from Brazil.

Scout.com ranks him as the No. 5 prospect in the Class of 2010.

He chose the Orange over Louisville, Connecticut and Florida State.

Congrats on the great get Cuse.  We wanted him and didn't end up getting him.  Oh well, the beat goes on and in no way do I think any sort of 'egde' has been lost.  Now we'll just have to take Teague, Shaw, and Blackshear to make up for this.  Wonder where Pitino's going to be looking for his big?...

Ville4Real,
If he has the talent that's expected (top 5 prospect), he's gone in a year anyway.  I think Tyler was a much bigger loss for us than losing Fat Melo.

When are KY fans going to realize the Earth revolves around the Sun...not KY.  This is a post about Syracuse landing Fab Melo.  That being said, good pickup for Boeheim.

If this guy carries his team to a Championship game, and then beats KU in that game... I may just give up.
LMAO.  That was pretty funny.

I am actually disappointed that we didn't get him.

True, he is a project but after a few seasons he could have been a Thabeet type player.

dont worry when Uk freshman dont live up to hypeEveryone keeps saying that our freshmen won't live up to the hype.  But, nobody has explained why they won't live up to the hype.  John Wall could've been a top 5 pick in the draft this year.  Cousins has been compared to Blake Griffin.  Daniel Orton is in San Fransisco with Patterson working with "hell's trainer".  Sometimes our players and coaches can't tell the difference between John Wall and Eric Bledsoe on the court.  John Hood averaged a triple double in high school and was one of the best shooters in the nation last year.  And Darnell Dodson is 6-7, crazy athletic, and is a knockdown shooter.  Explain to me why those guys won't live up to the hype.

I wasn't ever over excited about getting this kid.  He is a monster underneath but he looks a little slow and confused sometimes to me from the videos I've watched.  Also, its not like the Ville wont come up with a good replacement.  Ricky P always finds a diamond in the rough.  Congrats on the GET though Orange, at least he will be in the Big East.
